Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The major American newspapers and television network are systematically suppressing the news of demonstrations by millions worldwide against Israeli genocide in Gaza. On Saturday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) delivered a statement announcing its intent to attack "schools, mosques, and hospitals" in Gaza, amid a systematic campaign of genocide and ethnic cleansing that has already killed 8,000 Palestinians. The UAW announced a tentative agreement Saturday night with Stellantis along the lines of the sellout deal at Ford. An examination of the Ford agreement exposes the lie that contract represents "historic" gains for workers. The protests are small and reflect a Zionist opposition to the Netanyahu government, but are indicative of growing concerns about the purpose and direction of a war that threatens to escalate across the region, putting the survival of the state of Israel at risk. Saturday's "March for Palestine" was the largest since the beginning of Israel's onslaught on Gaza, following marches of 150,000 and 300,000 in the last two weeks. World Socialist Web Site spoke with people protesting Israel's war on Gaza at demonstrations mobilising tens of thousands across the country this weekend, including in Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, Manchester, Glasgow and Inverness. At the October 28 demonstation in Manchester, UK, which mobilised around 20,000 people against Israel's war on Gaza, a WSWS video reporting team at the rally in the city's St Peter's Square carried out a series of interviews with protesters. "I would be willing to lose weeks of work for this… If we can make sure this message is heard, and that something is done, there is nothing that I wouldn't do." Protesters who spoke with the WSWS expressed outrage and disgust with the New Zealand government for supporting the genocidal actions of the Zionist regime in Israel. The Révolution Permanente website absurdly claims the Biden administration is desperate to rein in Israel "at all costs" and does not want to "engage" in the Middle East. As part of the wave of repression being meted out against all pro-Palestinian opposition to Israeli war crimes, Paris police assaulted and issued mass fines to protesters on Saturday. The American ruling class has accompanied the Israeli onslaught with an escalation of its attacks on democratic rights. "I strongly condemn Israel's murderous war on Gaza. No food, no medicine, no drinking water; Israel's bloody activity directed against millions of people in Gaza should not be allowed." The appointment of Miles to oversee Houston ISD is entirely undemocratic and must be opposed, but this requires the independent mobilization of the working class against both big business parties and their policies of war and austerity. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week, thousands of pharmacists at Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid and other drugstores across the US will take part in a wildcat strike action against the conglomerates that control the vast majority of US pharmacies. Over 50 employees and contributors to Artforum have also signed a letter to the owners of the magazine demanding that Velasco be reinstated. The new party is intended to prevent resistance to social decline, poverty, war and oppression from challenging the capitalist social order and uniting with the struggles of the international working class. The IAM bureaucrats in the incumbent slate used a mixture of harassment and intimidation, lengthy delays in sending campaign material, and finally the improper disqualification of ballots to ensure their own "re-election." This interview was conducted with a public health employee of the Hawaii State Department of Health (HIDOH), as part of the WSWS Global Workers' Inquest into the COVID-19 Pandemic. The worker chose to use the pseudonym Robert to protect their identity. In an Open Letter, over 100 Jewish artists, writers and scholars protest against the state repression of every expression of solidarity with Palestine in Germany. he state Labor government bears criminal responsibility for the appalling incident. This column profiles important historical events which took place during this week, 25 years ago, 50 years ago, 75 years ago and 100 years ago. In order to offset a massive increase in spending on national defense and security, the Russian government is gutting funding for social spending, education, healthcare, and utilities. Amid already rampant inequality, the socio-economic impact will be felt for years, as hundreds of thousands of livelihoods have been erased overnight. The Canadian ruling elite's efforts to intimidate and silence critics of Israel's brutal genocide against the population of Gaza is having a chilling impact on university campuses. At multiple institutions, including York University in Toronto, student associations and clubs have been threatened with de-registration for expressing support for the Palestinian people.
