Ukraine's attacks on Moscow are aimed at provoking a retaliatory response by Russia, which could then be used to justify a massive escalation by NATO, including the potential entry of NATO troops directly into the conflict. Workers are regularly forced to work six-day weeks, have 4-5 hours of unpaid time between split shifts, wages far below the cost of living and no access to safe and clean bathrooms. The Socialist Equality Party opposes the victimisation of SLIC workers and stands unconditionally in defense of the jobs and democratic rights of all insurance corporation employees. Residents gathered in Davenport, Iowa, on Monday and Tuesday to demonstrate against the planned demolition of a partially collapsed century-old apartment building. Last week, UPS workers from Local 804 in New York City spoke with the World Socialist Web Site about the conditions they face in the most expensive city in the world and the struggle ahead. The number of mass shootings in the US continues climbing at an alarming rate as 16 people were killed and 80 injured in a series of at least 20 incidents over the Memorial Day weekend. It is not necessarily the case that no books about working lives are being written, only that they are not eagerly sought by the publishing industry.
