Amidst the voluminous media commentary on the indictment, there is little discussion of the content of the documents Trump removed from the White House, which involve the most dangerous and explosive secrets of the US military and intelligence apparatus. As Ukraine's offensive against Russian forces moves into full swing, NATO members are accelerating their efforts to initiate a formal military alliance with Ukraine, or even have the country join NATO. Both the sheer scale of the exercise and its character make clear that "Air Defender 2023" is not simply a routine maneuver. It is a direct component of the NATO war offensive against Russia. In a surprise visit Saturday, Canadian PM Trudeau committed another C$500 million in military assistance to the Ukrainian regime, and pledged to continue supplying it to wage war on Russia for "as long as it takes." Workers on the picket lines in Ohio and those working at a Missouri plant told the World Socialist Web Site that Clarios was deliberately mislabeling batteries to conceal that they were being manufactured by strikebreakers. The VW board has been in intensive talks with the IG Metall trade union and its works councils in Germany on how to enforce this programme of cuts against the workforce. Over 11,000 writers in the entertainment industry, members of the Writers Guild of America, are coming to the end of their sixth week on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. As hazardous air quality conditions threaten transit workers health, the Transport Workers Union and transit agency are pushing cuts to real wages and reduced time off. Divisions within the ruling elite are only the harbinger and an accelerant of the more fundamental conflict between the working class and capitalist regimes promoting austerity and war internationally. The CEO of Fractal Therapeutics discusses the false construct of "hybrid immunity" and the growing danger of new variants as SARS-CoV-2 is allowed to infect the world's population without any mitigation. Washington is not only supplying military hardware, as it has done in the past, but drawing Taipei into its framework of military alliances in the Indo-Pacific directed against China. There is a growing militancy among physician-residents in the US who face crushing debts and are paid minimum wages while they carry the main burden of caring for hospital-based patients. Wednesday's meetings made even more clear the bureaucracy's real aim—to ensure that workers' opposition to Labor's deepening assault on their pay and conditions remains isolated and constrained within the framework of sporadic, isolated stoppages and minor work bans. The starkest aspect of the meeting was that at an event ostensibly opposing war, not a word was said about the war that is underway in Ukraine. Sections of the Buddhist establishment and the government, mired in a deepening crisis, demanded Edirisooriya's arrest on absurd accusations of "defaming" Buddhism. The New Zealand media and political establishment has launched an hysterical witch-hunt against a Radio NZ employee who is falsely accused of publishing "Russian propaganda."
