Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The 2023 Turkish elections exposed all the pseudo-left groups that supported Kılıçdaroğlu as a supposedly "left" or "democratic" candidate against Erdoğan. Striking workers in Ohio are battling the giant auto battery manufacturer and the sabotage of the United Auto Workers bureaucracy. Dana Corporation auto parts workers announce the formation of a rank-and-file committee in Pennsylvania to link their struggles with other workers at the company and throughout the globe. Ukrainian attacks inside Russia continued with a series of drone strikes against two oil refineries in the region of Russian Krasnodar and the shelling of the Belgorod region of Russia near the Ukrainian border. BAE's plans to produce weapons in Ukraine is confirmation of the fact that Britain is in an undeclared war with Russia. All workers and young people in the GTA looking for a way to oppose war should make plans to attend Sunday's meeting and join the struggle for the construction of an international working class-led anti-war movement. The precedent for Britain's arbitrary detention of journalists and publishers was set by the seizure and imprisonment of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The two leading candidates for the Republican presidential nomination are threatening, as part of a war against socialism, to destroy democratic rights embedded in the US Constitution. Adams is increasingly channeling the red-baiting Senator Joseph McCarthy of the 1950s and the fascistic former president, Donald Trump. The governors of Virginia, South Carolina, West Virginia and Iowa all announced on Wednesday that they would support the call of Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott for the National Guard and law enforcement to "help combat the border crisis." Impoverishment of the working class and bipartisan destruction of the social safety net leading to elderly being thrown out on the streets, poorer health outcomes. SAG-AFTRA and DGA members are fighting against a progressive worsening of working and living conditions. Even more than in previous surges of the virus, mass illness and death are being treated by governments and the official media as a non-event. The unions are presenting teachers with one below-inflation agreement after another in an effort to wear down their resistance and force them to accept a wage-cutting deal. As part of the drive to privatize the US Postal Service, and in collaboration with the union, a convoluted formula has been imposed which dramatically cuts the pay of rural letter carriers. A new stage has been reached in the Quebec ruling elite's promotion of an explicitly chauvinistic Quebec nationalism, with the media and all four parties in the National Assembly lending support to hysterical claims of a "federalist plot" to destroy the "Quebec nation" through "mass" immigration. On Friday, Republican Senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv and publicly praised the death of Russians in the US-NATO proxy war in Ukraine. This was not a strike, but a stunt designed to create the illusion that the union will lead a fight for decent wages and conditions. The introduction of paying wards, to convert the free public health system to a paid service, is occurring amid a deliberate rundown of the public health system and its network of government hospitals. Despite data which indicates a growing crisis for ever increasing sections of the population, the Reserve Bank of Australia, in line with its counterparts internationally, is determined to press ahead with the suppression of the living standards of the working class. The student protests against the militarisation of PNG point to growing opposition throughout the Pacific region to the accelerating US-led drive against China. While the Stalinists have rushed to hail the DMK-led government's reversal, workers should anticipate that it will revive a version of its anti-worker Factories Act at the first available opportunity, most probably following next year's general election.
