The rapid and lopsided passage by both houses of Congress of the debt ceiling bill worked out between President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, with the Democrats supplying the bulk of the votes, must serve as an object lesson on the unbridgeable class chasm between the entire political establishment and the working class. The 8-1 ruling throws open the door for employers to sue unions for damages in the event of a strike, implying that strikes are only allowed so long as they do not in any way harm the company's bottom line. Workers and young people have spoken out powerfully in defence of the IYSSE's right to hold its anti-war meeting in opposition to the threats and intimidation from the far-right UCC and its allies within the Canadian state. While tens of thousands of fans cheered rock musician Roger Waters on, politicians and the media organized an unprecedented witch-hunt. The CWU's statement confirms Ward, Furey and the postal executive remain unaccountable to the membership and are working hand-in-glove with Royal Mail. The Communication Workers Union is suppressing all news of an unofficial walkout by postal workers at Glasgow's G1-5 delivery office in late May. The walkout was reportedly triggered by management bullying. "I lost my day off and nearly $20,000 a year," one worker said. "We need to strike! People need to know what is happening!" The release of documents from the period of Epstein's imprisonment come as more information is emerging on his high-level connections in the rancorous world of the ultra-rich. On Thursday it was reported that FBI agents are trawling around, apparently seeking dirt on Assange despite him being locked up in a maximum-security British prison for the past four years. Workers in both main rail unions have voted to strike and then renewed a six-month mandate as demanded by anti-union legislation. But thanks to the union bureaucracy, the strikes have achieved nothing. In Milan, Naples and Turin, strikers marched through the city center chanting, "Abbassate le armi, alzate i salari!" (Down with arms, up with wages!). Instead of appealing to other sections of the working class in common struggle against the major studios and their Wall Street owners, the union bureaucracies are releasing empty statements of "solidarity" while appealing to rapacious studios for a "fair" agreement. The new Teamsters administration has pledged repeatedly to strike UPS if a deal is not in place by July 31, but is weeks behind schedule sending out strike authorization ballots to 340,000 members. The Biden administration is exploiting the supposed threat by North Korea to deepen its trilateral military collaboration with Seoul and Tokyo in preparation for war against China. Under the guise of cracking down on climate change protests that triggered a minor traffic delay, Labor joined hands with the Liberal Party to pass laws that ban any activity that disrupts "free passage of a public place." The US jobs report delivered mixed signals Friday, with the unemployment rate rising to from 3.4 to 3.7 percent while the economy added 339,000 new jobs, well above expectations. The WSWS spoke to two Bulgarian workers who were prevented from speaking about the miserable conditions of temporary agency workers at the Left Party's recent conference.
