Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The European ruling class is at war with the mass of humanity deprived of the most basic conditions of life by imperialist violence and capitalist inequality. Survivors' pain and anguish over the massive loss of life is turning into anger over the lack of government response before, during and after the preventable catastrophe. A "No" vote is necessary, but no matter what happens, to leverage their power, UPS workers have to finally settle their score with the union bureaucracy. With the end of voting on the UPS contract only a week away, the Teamsters bureaucracy is clearly nervous about the substantial opposition among 340,000 UPS workers to the new five-year deal. This is an act of political censorship, which is closely linked to the present NATO war against Russia and the attempt to rehabilitate a right-wing radical and violent professor. A young worker describes the oppressive conditions under which workers in his factory are forced to labour at daily to their lives and health. The pickup in the Chinese property market at the start of the year, following the lifting of COVID public health measures, has been short-lived with a major property developer missing an interest payment on a debt. The strike authorization vote comes after workers voted down a proposed contract on August 6 that was backed by the United Auto Workers (UAW). Teachers and school workers are heading into an explosive year in public education, and the rank-and-file must seize control of these struggles from the trade union bureaucracies. Union officials and branch representatives created confusion in order to push through a motion to accept a rotten "in-principle" enterprise agreement with management. Thorpe, like the proponents of the Voice, is peddling racialism to divide workers and suppress the fundamental class issues of war and social inequality. There is no doubt that Providence management, with the help of ONA, deliberately tried to split off the PHHH from the other bargaining units, and will use this to try to enforce a worse contract there.
