Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. This lecture on the origins of the Fourth International was delivered by Clara Weiss and Johannes Stern at the 2023 SEP (US) international Summer School. Biden, fearing that the administration of UAW President Shawn Fain may not have the situation under control, issued a statement Monday calling on the companies and the UAW apparatus to work together to hammer out an agreement, one which he knows will contain massive attacks on workers. Biden's indifference to the deaths of what will likely be hundreds of people is not due to a personality defect or cognitive decline but a reflection of the class character of his administration and the US government as a whole. The entire police department of a small town in Kansas raided the local newspaper and home of its owners, one of whom died the next day, apparently due to stress. Kurt Campbell's comments are a blunt statement of how extensively the Australian political and military elite has tied the country's population to preparations for a potentially catastrophic US-led war against China. The military drills, which initially involved only India and the US, have been transformed into a regional show of force directed against China. The August 8 letter from the Office of Labor-Management Standards Enforcement ignores the widespread evidence of voter suppression by the UAW bureaucracy. Unifor President Lana Payne reiterated at a press conference Thursday that the union bureaucracy will work to keep Canadian autoworkers separated from their co-workers in the US, despite the near simultaneous expiration of their contracts in September and the common corporate assault on their jobs and wages. The WHO has confirmed that a wave of COVID infections is washing across the globe. They warn that without a public health edifice to track these latest variants, viral evolution poses as an existential threat. The Democratic-controlled state government has only recently released documents about the nursing home deaths in 2020, after stalling for years to protect the owners and Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The 26-year bloody war contains important strategic lessons for the working class in Sri Lanka and internationally. The resignation of Amira Mohamed Ali as co-chair of the Left Party's parliamentary faction means a split seems only a matter of time. World Socialist Web Site reporters spoke with doctors on the picket lines in London and Leeds. Junior doctors have suffered a decade-and-a-half of pay cuts, with pay eroded by nearly 30 percent. The basic hourly rate for junior doctors is just £14.09. The latest WSWS articles on the arbitrator's ruling were read by tens of thousands and widely shared by workers on social media and among their colleagues. Individual local and company groups of the EVG published statements calling for rejection of the arbitration offer. The Labour government has ended the requirements for masks to be worn in hospitals and for people with COVID-19 to self-isolate, a decision that will fuel the spread of the virus and more deaths and severe illnesses. Thousands protested in Buenos Aires Friday against the killing of a journalist while workers at Lycoming Engines aviation voted by 98 percent to reject a contract brought back by the United Auto Workers. A strike by municipality workers in Istanbul and Ankara and 2,000 textile workers in Gaziantep has seen the DİSK union apparatus resort to physical violence in attempt to suppress the action on behalf of the employers and the state. Whatever government is eventually formed in Spain, it will be committed to waging war on the working class.
