The event reflects the objective change that has been underway for some time in the relationship between Trotskyism and the international working class. UAW President Shawn Fain is following the same playbook used by the Teamsters at UPS, seeking to disarm and demobilize opposition through various stunts as it prepares to impose a sellout. . The UAW announced a deal Thursday with Ultium Cells, the GM-LG Energy joint venture in Lordstown, Ohio. Last June marked 60 years since the infamous congress of reunification between the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), alongside its supporters in Latin America and Asia, and the Pabloite International Secretariat. While Democratic Party politicians and the mainstream press focus on the limited Georgia election interference case, internal Secret Service emails published this week by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics confirm that the agency had developed a relationship with the fascist militia leader prior to the November 2020 election. The bureaucracy will use the result to claim there is huge support for them and this contract. But that is a lie. The GEO/AFT, which is politically dominated by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), used the university's threat to fire strikers who fail to return to work by the start of the fall term on Monday, August 28, to browbeat the student workers into accepting the university-dictated sellout contract. The management and the unions are trying to push through agreements that would provide no protection from casualisation, excessive workloads and job losses. The answer to the question so often raised by the opponents of even the mildest social reforms "where is the money going to come from?" is answered, at least partially, in data on the extent of share buybacks.
