Democratic congressional leaders have claimed falsely that they are "powerless" to fight Trump and in "shock" over the speed of his actions. Backed by dozens of ultra-right anti-vaccine zealots in the audience, Kennedy engaged in over three hours of lies, half-truths, and disinformation in his effort to become the top general in Trump's war on public health. Across the US, protests by students, educators and workers are mounting against Trump's scapegoating of immigrants, mass deportations, arbitrary arrests, brutal assaults on migrants and violations of longstanding democratic rights. Prior to signing the fascistic Laken Riley Act into law, Trump ordered the Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security to begin preparations for housing 30,000 human beings at the US Navy base. Last week, DeepSeek, a startup company based in Hongzhou China, released its newest artificial intelligence model, DeepSeek R1. Within days, the chatbot became the most-downloaded app in Apple's app store. Jonathan Reynolds, Labour's business secretary, told the Financial Times, "We have to respond to the agenda the US president has just set out with our own dynamism… Every country has to do it." Far-right minister David Seymour proposed selling state houses and privatising health and education, and expressed alarm at growing support for socialism among young people. On Wednesday, with the support of the Alternative for Germany, the Christian Democrats passed a motion on migration policy through the Bundestag which abrogates fundamental constitutional principles and European law. The Nazis have been emboldened by the promotion of the far-right internationally, epitomised by the ascension to power of the fascistic Trump regime in the US. The conflict comes amid rising global tensions after Donald Trump's election, especially between Washington and Beijing, over control of strategic minerals like those present in the Congo. These attacks are the latest in a series of aerial bombardments by the Nigerian government as part of a protracted campaign against armed groups and insurgents in the north of the country, much of which is effectively outside of federal government control. The impending Canada-US trade war is a reactionary conflict between rival imperialist powers that will be waged at the expense of workers on both sides of the border. The repression of political opposition and journalists in Turkey is increasing in the context of the deepening social offensive of the bourgeoisie against the working class.
