Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Trump set himself above the bank and energy executives on the panel, who groveled, flattered and praised him. But like every dictator, he speaks not only for himself but for a social class. Trump's presence in North Carolina and California signals his administration's push towards the privatization of disaster response, further erosion of environmental programs and the disenfranchisement of hundreds of thousands of voting people. The ending of the commitment to the World Health Organization by the United States poses as an existential threat to the well-being of the international working class. In a vulgarity-laden statement posted on X, Argentine President Javier Milei defended billionaire Elon Musk's Nazi salute and threatened to hunt down and exterminate left-wingers. Whatever the hopes for "peace" with Trump by the Russian oligarchs, within a few weeks after the elections, it has become evident that Trump's pre-election statements on a "peaceful policy" were empty demagogic promises. The attack democratic rights by the British state, headed by Sir Keir Starmer's Labour government, escalated in the aftermath of the initial repression. The more openly Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right regime is waging a genocidal campaign against the Palestinian population in Gaza, the more ruthlessly the German authorities are cracking down on any criticism of it. The World Socialist Web Site spoke with one of the 77 people arrested as part of the anti-democratic police crackdown on last Saturday's national Gaza protest in London. The widespread favorable media response to the pardon speaks to the enduring usefulness of Garvey's brand of identity politics to the powers that be. "For the psychiatrists to resign atomises and disempowers them. They should join with mental health care nurses, psychologists and social workers to collectively fight against what the government is doing." What played out on Wednesday was a replay of December 24, right down to the Rail, Tram and Bus Union bureaucracy absurdly claiming "victory" when their strike liquidation promise led the government to drop its case. The military's murderous tactics in defence of the mining giant's profits caused outrage, with people taking to the streets of Obuasi town in protest and setting fire to several buses. There is enormous potential to expand the strike into a broader movement in defense healthcare and the working class against the attacks by major corporations and by the science deniers in the Trump administration. In the final days of the Biden presidency the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed filed a pair of significant anti-discrimination lawsuits. Three years after the "survival drama" phenomenon attracted millions of viewers' attention worldwide, Squid Game's second season struggles to build on the series' cracked foundation. The police have offered no evidence of any connection between recent arson and graffiti attacks and the mass opposition to the Australian government-backed Israeli genocide in Gaza. On his social media accounts and in a purported manifesto, the fascist shooter repeated the same anti-immigrant "Great Replacement Theory" politics promoted by the Republican Party, and large sections of the financial oligarchy. South Korea: Hyundai Steel workers strike for 24-hours; India: Kerala state government workers strike for pay rise and outstanding allowances; Pakistan: Punjab government schoolteachers strike over pay and privatisation; Australia: Forest fire management workers in Victoria continue strike action About the WSWS The World Socialist Web Site is published by the International Committee of the Fourth International, the world Trotskyist movement, and its affiliated sections in the Socialist Equality Parties around the world.
