Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The extent of the devastation–much of which has yet to be accounted for–is yet another criminal indictment of the capitalist ruling elite, which is fueling climate change and doing nothing to combat its ever greater impact on the world's population in the name of profits, leaving poor and rich alike to deal with the consequences. The European powers have reacted extremely aggressively to repeated announcements by future US President Donald Trump to annex Greenland and the Panama Canal. This shows that they are taking Trump's threats seriously. The PA has justified its brutal crackdown on Palestinian groups resisting Israel's land grabs and military occupation as necessary to maintain "law and order." In reality it is seeking to prove its role as Israel's subcontractor in enforcing its control over the West Bank. The IYSSE in the United States condemns in the strongest possible terms the ban on our comrades' lecture at Peradeniya University in Sri Lanka. The 111-day walkout by coal miners, which began on December 6, 1977, was a major strategic experience for the American and international working class. American Socialist Party leader Morris Hillquit was thoroughly exposed by Leon Trotsky as a two-faced reformist, during the two months Trotsky spent in New York just before the Russian Revolution of 1917. The treatment of refugees and migrants is a true reflection of the state of democracy and human rights in Europe. The threats of deportations directed against refugees and migrants are aimed at the working class as a whole. This is the second part of an interview with Joseph McBride, author of George Cukor's People. The first part was posted January 8. The positions advanced in Red Flag by Jerome Small send workers a clear message: Taking on a major company and winning is impossible. The earthquake has exposed the consequences of the mass poverty and lack of basic infrastructure endemic throughout the Pacific Islands. Under the plans, private health companies will be handed £2.5 billion to carry out an extra million treatments of NHS patients a year.
