Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The state is home to 84 billionaires, including the world's richest man, yet officials refuse to fund the social infrastructure needed to safeguard the population from predictable natural disasters. This decision is in direct violation of the clear will of the rank and file and without any vote. The strike must be renewed immediately and expanded to include transit workers, white-collar employees and all other sections of the working class in Philadelphia. The new contract contains a miserly 9 percent wage increase, spread out over three years. This is only one percent better than the city's initial offer. The US Supreme Court issued an 8-1 order on Tuesday—without addressing the constitutionality of the issue—that allows the Trump administration to proceed with the destruction of government agencies and the firing of tens of thousands of federal employees. The BBC's systematic bias in favour of Israel reflects the growing chasm between Britain's ruling elite that enables and supports Israel's war of annihilation on Gaza, and the broader public that have turned out in their millions in Britain and throughout the world to oppose the war. Some 1,500 healthcare workers have been killed by Israeli forces and hundreds more detained, imprisoned and disappeared since October 2023. The strikers voiced their opposition to the lengthening of the work day, the spread of precarious contract-labour jobs, privatization, the evisceration of public services, and legislation that will illegalize most strikes. The gruesome discovery is further evidence of the atrocities committed during the brutal communal war, unleashed by successive Colombo governments, against the separatist LTTE. Mamdani's own response to the campaign of denunciations and threats has been to shift to the right, stressing his willingness to work with "business leaders." Nadal-Melsió was fired in early June. This followed protests over the Whitney's cancellation of a performance event treating Palestinian mourning and resistance. New evidence of corporate negligence and state complicity exposes how deregulation and exploitation led to seven preventable deaths. The unions are doing everything possible to keep workers on the job and prevent a broader struggle against big business and capitalism. The UFCW-backed contract deepens exploitation, locking in poverty wages in the context of rising costs and job cuts, while dressing it up as progress. Residents have given powerful testimony condemning the destruction of their homes, but the overall thrust of the inquiry is to legitimise the assault on this vulnerable section of the working class. The slashing of worker protections is aimed at increasing the rate of exploitation and boosting the profits of US corporations. The hysteria and witch-hunting over mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani mirrors the gangster methods of the UFT, which is determined to stamp out even the most limited opportunities for workers to express their opposition to the status quo.
