Dear reader, This week, contracts are expiring for 150,000 autoworkers in the United States, followed by the expiration of contracts for another 18,000 autoworkers in Canada. The World Socialist Web Site and its Autoworker Newsletter are playing the leading role in mobilizing opposition to the effort by the companies, the UAW and Unifor trade union apparatuses, and the Biden and Trudeau governments to push through another concessions contract, paving the way for the destruction of tens of thousands of jobs.
In this and countless other struggles, the WSWS is the voice of the working class. It is a platform for workers to express their opposition to inequality and exploitation. It is a scaffolding for workers in different plants, industries and countries to organize and share experiences. And, above all, it provides every day a perspective and orientation for the working class to fight back.
We need the financial support of our readers to expand our coverage and reach more workers throughout the world. | Striking Clarios workers on first day of strike May 8, 2023 | | | This year has seen an explosive growth of the class struggle throughout the world. From the demonstrations involving millions in France against pension cuts and police brutality, to the strike wave in the UK, to protests against austerity in Sri Lanka, to the fight of nurses, educators, postal workers and other sections of the working class in the United States.
The World Socialist Web Site is unparalleled in its coverage of all these developments and more. If one wants to know what is happening in the working class struggle, one must read the WSWS. And, increasingly, workers are. Our articles on strikes and protests are regularly read by tens of thousands of workers looking for information and a strategy to fight. This includes, in the past two weeks, articles on the film and television workers' strike in the US, the auto contract struggle, conditions of US postal workers, and the fight of rail workers in the UK and VW workers in Germany.
The WSWS is alone in exposing the efforts of the trade union apparatus in every country, working with the state and the corporations, to enforce concessions. Every day, we strive to connect the opposition of workers to exploitation with the fight against an expanding imperialist war in Ukraine, an ongoing pandemic, and the turn of the ruling elites to authoritarian methods of rule.
Basing itself on the entire history of the socialist movement, the WSWS is building in the working class a socialist leadership that can once and for all overturn the capitalist system and establish a society based on equality and human need, not private profit.
