Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Against the backdrop of the debacle of Ukraine's summer offensive, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken traveled to Ukraine Monday to reaffirm US involvement in the Ukraine war "for as long as it takes." In order to continue the US-NATO war against Russia in Ukraine in 2023 and beyond without labor disruptions, the Biden administration, working with the critical labor bureaucracies, has blocked strikes in major industries while enforcing agreements that further impoverish workers. Keyser represents a certain social type, affluent, well-connected in the industry, intimately tied to the Democratic Party, that dominates the WGA and SAG-AFTRA leaderships. In an interview with Associated Press, UAW President Shawn Fein said, "when you go into bargaining, you don't always get everything you demand," all but admitting that a sellout agreement is being prepared between the union apparatus and the auto corporations. The filing takes apart the ridiculous claims by the DOL that Lehman should have filed his complaint--which centered on the fact that the historically low turnout was the product of deliberate voter suppression by the UAW bureaucracy--before the election results were known. The Socialist Equality Party urges workers and youth to reject both the Yes and the No cases presented by the ruling political establishment and calls for an active boycott campaign to oppose the referendum itself. The homicidal policies put in place by the Conservative government under Prime Minister Boris Johnson during the pandemic resulted in over 230,000 deaths and contributed massively to the surge in waiting list deaths. The US war machine is confronting a worsening recruitment crisis as it escalates its war against Russia in Ukraine and prepares for war against China. The 2024 German federal budget is a war budget in two respects: It plans record spending for waging war and for rearmament, and it declares war on the working class by slashing social spending. The Financial Stability Board has warned that the global economic recovery is losing strength and the effects of rising interest rates are increasingly being felt. Paxton has been a leading supporter of Donald Trump's campaign to overturn the 2020 election, as well as a host of other reactionary measures. The purpose of the legislation is not to reverse the growth of exploitative gig-economy and sham-contracting arrangements, but to legitimise them, establishing a Labor- and union-sanctioned cut-rate workforce. The first-ever national strike by thousands of senior doctors and dentists in the public hospitals, while limited by the union, is a sign of ongoing ferment among the health workers. Confronting rising mass opposition to its severe austerity measures, the real target of the government's "anti-organised crime" operations are the working class and the poor.
