Despite backing from the Biden administration and favorable media publicity, the UAW unionization campaign was turned back by the first serious management resistance it encountered. Leading the demonstration were Palestinians holding keys as a symbol of intent to return to their stolen land. The protest included a large contingent of students involved in some of the 25 campus occupations taking place nationally. After police viciously attacked peaceful protesters in New York City, leading to dozens of arrests, Biden falsely claimed he supported and listened to "peaceful" protests. The death of President Ebrahim Raisi could trigger a political crisis and lead to sharp infighting in the country's Islamic bourgeois clerical regime. The visit was a rebuke by Beijing to the NATO imperialist powers' pressure on China to cut its ties to Russia amid the NATO-Russia war in Ukraine. The powerful movement for a political strike is already confronting both the intransigence of the university authorities and the UAW bureaucracy. In the centre of a lively discussion was the question of what political perspective was necessary to politically mobilise the working class in the struggle against genocide and war. Despite the growing opposition to the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, Scholz remains adamant about supporting these wars with all available means, determined to impose the exploding costs of military madness through social spending cuts, falling real wages and mass layoffs. The conference brought together health experts in several fields who detailed the impact of the destruction of healthcare facilities and basic infrastructure on the besieged population of Gaza amid the continuing US-Israeli onslaught. Australian Labor Party hysterically denounces pro-Palestinian protesters at its Victorian conference The branding of anti-genocide demonstrators at Labor's conference as a violent mob is the latest example of a broader campaign to vilify and potentially outlaw opposition to Israel's onslaught in Gaza. Protesters involved in an indefinite strike were violently assaulted by riot police, including with a water cannon spraying polluted water at them at high pressure. The producers, under the gun from Wall Street and major investors, are determined to cut costs and jobs, while IATSE is desperately appealing to the studios for something it can "sell" to the workers. With the collaboration of the unions, workers are being forced to shoulder the cost of the failed repairs, which are now expected to take at least another month.
