Dear reader, The 2024 WSWS Online May Day Rally, held on Saturday, marked a significant milestone in the development of an international anti-war movement to stop the genocide in Gaza, the war in Ukraine, and the developing World War III. You can access the full video of the rally here: Watch the recording This year's May Day featured speeches from 12 countries, spanning five continents, given in eight different languages, with subtitles in 10 languages. Collectively, they presented a comprehensive overview of the world's central political developments, based on a unified revolutionary socialist perspective. In his speech, posted as the Perspective today, WSWS International Editorial Board Chairman David North outlined the main themes of the rally. After explaining the connections between the genocide in Gaza and the war in Ukraine, and warning of the immense dangers of nuclear war, North stressed: History has demonstrated that the deep-rooted contradictions of global capitalism that gave rise to wars also lead to social revolution. The process of mobilizing the resources necessary to wage war compel the ruling elites to escalate their assault on the living conditions and democratic rights of the working class. This will be met with ever greater resistance. But for this resistance to be equal to the historic tasks requires the development of a revolutionary perspective. The impact of the crisis will provide a powerful impulse for vast changes in the political orientation of the working class. But the necessary conversion of objective processes into revolutionary political action requires the building of a Marxist leadership of the working class. This and every subsequent speech at the rally made clear that the International Committee of the Fourth International and its affiliated Socialist Equality Parties represent the only genuine Marxist-Trotskyist party in the world today.
