Sunak's decision on a snap general election was dictated by the need to form a stable government to pursue a rapid escalation of NATO's de facto war against Russia in Ukraine. Hundreds of students walked out of commencement at Harvard, after the main student speaker denounced the administration for barring 13 Gaza protesters from graduating with their class. It was clear before announcement that the two campuses were prepared to walk out, with or without the official sanction of the union. Israel's attack on Rafah, the southernmost city in the Gaza Strip, has now displaced nearly 1 million people and massively intensified famine throughout the entire territory. The systematic censorship in the US of artists who express sympathy with the plight of the Gazan population and oppose the genocidal policies of Netanyahu-Biden continues. The Sozialistische Gleichheitspartei (Socialist Equality Party, SGP), German section of the International Committee of the Fourth International, held its party congress from 12 to 15 April. We are publishing here the resolution that was unanimously adopted by the delegates. The act, a response to the Russian Revolution, was an attack on the entire working class. Tax concessions for the wealthy and corporations far outweigh the "not fiscally sustainable" cost of increasing welfare payments by $550 a fortnight. On May 18, the SGP organised powerful rallies in Duisburg-Hamborn and Munich-Giesing, two working class districts of major German cities. The SGP candidates and members explained the party's programme and called upon workers to join the party. National 24-hour strikes of public sector workers in both Greece and Portugal over wages; protests in Iran continue over poor pensions, wages and working conditions; Ghana's judicial workers begin indefinite walkout over non-payment of allowances Labour Party-run Birmingham Council, covering a population of over 1 million, is imposing £300 million in cuts, and must sell off a staggering £1.25 billion of historic assets, land and property to repay a government bailout loan.
