Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Threats by top European officials to launch missile strikes or a ground invasion against Russia are opening an escalatory spiral that can only be halted by the working class. Israel launched its long-planned genocidal assault on Rafah on Monday, issuing orders for the population of the city to evacuate and launching an intense bombardment. A lengthy New York Times essay has acknowledged that DSA representative Ocasio-Cortez is now the lynchpin in the Democratic Party's strategy to block growing opposition to imperialist war and genocide in Gaza and channel it behind Biden's reelection campaign. Workers in Los Angeles and across the US must come to the defense of protesting students against the police repression being spearheaded by the Biden administration and prepare to take strike action themselves to end the Gaza genocide. The article reviews the experience of the Kent State massacre of anti-war college students in 1970, which has enormous relevance for today amid the massive police crackdown on campus protests against the Gaza genocide. The assault took place three days after President Joe Biden denounced the protests as violent and anti-semitic, virtually indemnifying Zionist and fascist provocateurs who also attacked encampments and assaulted students over the weekend. The revelation, published by the Wall Street Journal in late April, came from undisclosed sources within the CIA, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the State Department and is "broadly accepted" within these institutions. These arrests are part of efforts to crush the growing social opposition around the world to the genocide in Gaza, imperialist war and attacks on working class conditions. The strikes testify to the determination of the drivers to oppose the erosion of their pay and conditions. But after almost two years, they also demonstrate the abject failure of Aslef's leadership. For rejecting the Communication Workers Union's sell out of the dispute involving all postal workers, Fleet members have been left hung out to dry for the best part of a year. The locked-out firefighters work at factories where profit-driven negligence produced fatal defects on many of its planes. At a meeting with Rabbinical Councils leaders, Albanese aligned himself with a vitriolic campaign by Zionist organisations and the right-wing corporate media to slander and shut down campus protests. "How can the very people entrusted to 'do no harm' stay silent when over 400 of our healthcare colleagues have been targeted, detained, abused and murdered…" Workers and poor in the North and East must reject the sordid political manoeuvres of the Tamil parties which represent the interests of the Tamil elites not those of working people. Over 9,300 Canadian railway workers at Canadian National Railway (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) have voted to authorize strike while up to 120,000 educators staged protests on April 30 and May 1 across the Dominican Republic. In the climate of social and political reaction created by the governing parties, the political heirs of Hitler now thrive.
