Hundeds of thousands walked out on strike and protested in Greece Wednesday, amid a surge of anger over the deaths of 57 people in the February 28 Tempi train crash. With refineries, energy facilities and mass transit on strike, the prospect of a total cutoff of fuel supplies that would completely shut down the economy is looming. Jeep workers at the Toledo Assembly Complex spoke out in defense of workers at the nearby Dana Driveline Plant who have been unjustly fired for reporting exploitation, wage theft, sexual harassment and other abuses. While there is enormous anger and willingness to fight among workers, who are not prepared to accept further cuts to real wages, the service sector union Verdi is doing everything to prevent a broad mobilization. Aftersun, because it provides an honest picture, does suggest broader things as well, whether Wells is fully conscious of it or not.
