 Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The unfolding genocide in Gaza is the realization of "the descent into the abyss" of which James P. Cannon warned in his Open Letter, published 70 years ago last week. David North, chairperson of the International Editorial Board of the World Socialist Web Site, spoke at Birkbeck, University of London on Saturday. On Saturday, US President Joe Biden published an op-ed in the Washington Post explaining that the United States' support for Israel's genocide in Gaza is part of an integrated plan of world domination through military violence. Israeli forces relentlessly commit atrocities against Gaza as the NATO imperialist powers back the Zionist regime's pursuit of a final solution of the Palestinian question via genocide. In the face of police violence, hundreds of thousands of people every day continue to publicly register their opposition to the US-NATO backed Israeli ethnic cleansing campaign in Gaza and the West Bank. The DSA has belatedly adopted the call for a ceasefire in an attempt at political damage control internally and an effort to prop up the illusion that war and oppression can be ended through pressure from below on the Democratic Party. While Israel is committing a massacre of the Palestinian population, any criticism is denounced as antisemitism and terrorism. One of the most prominent victims of this hysterical campaign is the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. The genocidal offensive against Gaza is being wholly funded by Washington in furtherance of broader war aims targeting Iran. The meeting denounced Modi and the entire Indian ruling class for their direct complicity in the genocidal war that the Israeli state, with the backing of all the imperialist powers, is waging on the Palestinian people. The use of the slogan "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" is now being prosecuted in Germany as a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment of up to three years or a fine. United Nations rapporteur Francesca Albanese said the UN was "experiencing its most epic political and humanitarian failure since its creation" in Gaza. The deal is a thorough-going fraud, which the union is now attempting to perpetrate on the 65,000 striking actors. As Portland teachers enter their third week on strike, the union and district are conspiring to end the strike with a sellout agreement. Capitalist governments all over the world have effectively shut down all efforts to mitigate or alleviate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The struggle between the Zelensky regime and the Armed Forces of Ukraine led by Valery Zaluzhnyi continues to intensify as the failed counteroffensive and worldwide outbreak of protests against the genocide in Gaza places immense pressure on both Ukraine and its imperialist backers. Notwithstanding his empty expressions of sympathy for the nurses, Murphy has shown through his inaction that he sides with the executives of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The United Federation of Teachers completely disregarded the protest by New York City educators, instead backing the pro-war line of the AFL-CIO. "I see Zionism as another form of Nazism—they're crowding everybody into a little place and killing them all." This column profiles important historical events which took place during this week, 25 years ago, 50 years ago, 75 years ago and 100 years ago. After backing Israel's genocidal bombing of Gaza for six weeks, the deeply discredited Labour Party issued a mealy-mouthed call for a ceasefire, as large protests continued across New Zealand. Three chilling steps by the Albanese Labor government, clearly acting in concert with the US and other allies, demonstrate its determination to make McBride's fate a warning to all whistleblowers. The opposition by students and faculty to the suppression of free speech on university campuses is beginning to take on an ever more political character and is increasingly directed against the Democratic Party. Spanberger's rising political career is bound up with her unwavering loyalty to the military intelligence apparatus.
