Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The February 19 rally, organized by the Libertarian Party and the People's Party, is a reactionary political amalgam, including outright fascists, that has nothing to do with developing a genuine movement against imperialist war. Hundreds of residents packed a meeting Wednesday night to challenge the claims by officials that their families were safe after the burning of derailed tanker cars, which a hazardous materials expert called being "nuked by chemicals." The grand total of $85 million in aid offered by the Biden administration to both Turkey and Syria represents a tiny fraction of the billions in arms and aid poured into the proxy jihadist forces that ravaged Syria in Washington's regime change war. A report in the Washington Post suggests that the balloon shot down February 4 off the South Carolina coast was blown into North American airspace by unusual wind currents, and was not intended to target the United States or Canada. The ground is being prepared to divert vast sums from health care, education, welfare benefits and housing to the war machine, at devastating cost to millions of workers. Two days after a gunman fatally shot three students and critically wounded five others at Michigan State University, shock, horror and grief are turning to anger and a sense that endless mass shootings in America are symptoms of a diseased society. Workers who spoke to the WSWS earlier this week at plants in the Peoria, Illinois, area—the center of Caterpillar production for much of the 20th century—overwhelmingly expressed the sentiment that they needed far better wages, benefits and working conditions. Workers are gearing up for a major battle against not only the shipping giant, but against the pro-corporate union bureaucracy. For decades, the purported "progressive" alliance between the union bureaucrats, social democrats and Liberals has served as a key mechanism for suppressing working class opposition to austerity, imperialist war, and attacks on wages and conditions. Though touted as a win by the unions, the university committed itself to little more than pocket change for improving student mental health, while the purported wage gains for faculty will be quickly eroded by inflation. A scathing, and as-of-yet still unreleased Inspector General report on the Architect of the Capitol, revealed that James Brett Blanton, Trump-appointed member of the Capitol Police Board refused to respond during the siege. Ten years after its founding on February 6, 2013, the far-right Alternative for Germany is today an integral part of official political life in Germany. The key task facing the new governor will be the reorientation of the central bank's policy away from yield curve control (YCC), instituted in 2016, under which the BOJ outlaid the equivalent of trillions of dollars to purchase government bonds and keep interest rates at near zero levels. The censorship of the AP African American Studies course in the state is part of a much broader attack by the far right on public education and democratic rights. The Kishida government intends to further artificially suppress COVID-19 case numbers as the virus continues to run rampant in Japan. The movie is based on the 1985 criminal trial of the leaders of the military junta responsible for the abduction, kidnapping, rape, torture and murder of hundreds of thousands of people. The stand being taken by the Kinetic workers should be actively supported by workers everywhere. They are fighting for decent pay and conditions against a transnational corporation. Since Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's resignation in January, the Labour government has taken further steps to dismantle funding and support for people with COVID-19. Reports for WVPB, the National Public Radio affiliate, and for the Charleston Gazette-Mail have been fired. The "constant focus" of Graham and Unite union lead officials Guy Langston, Onay Kasab and Bobby Morton was to isolate Abellio drivers from their 23,000 colleagues across London, wear down resistance through repeated re-balloting, and recommending a company offer that opposed drivers' core demands during the 12-week dispute.
