Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Every day in the United States, heavily armed, militarized, and masked immigration agents—often operating without warrants or even the pretense of due process—are seizing workers, students, parents and long-time residents as part of President Donald Trump's ongoing mass deportation campaign. In the week since Israel launched food distributions under the auspices of the "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation," Israeli forces have turned the aid distributions into killing fields almost every day. Alleged "harassment" is a major issue for the Whitney, association with the Israeli murder machine, however, is not. A federal judge's ruling blocking the deportation of Soliman's wife and children is in response to the Trump administration's effort to use his attack to justify collective punishment and escalate its crackdown on immigrants and dissent. Even though a Milwaukee court has stated he was framed up and never threatened to kill the president, Ramon Morales Reyes is still being detained and subjected to a campaign to remove him from the US by Trump administration officials, including DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. Two construction workers were killed Wednesday afternoon when a large crane collapsed at a central Florida building site, burying them under twisted steel, concrete and other debris. Families of some of the 29 workers killed in the 2010 disaster in New Zealand are seeking to expose the full truth about how the prosecution of Pike River Coal's chief executive Peter Whittall was stifled. "The president is attempting to establish a dictatorship, to abolish the most basic democratic rights, including the right to habeas corpus, the right to free speech, the right to seek redress of grievance by suing the government over constitutional violations, as Momodou has outlined." The response from capitalist politicians at all levels of government has followed the predictable pattern of declaring emergencies while offering wholly inadequate resources to address the crisis. Metalworkers in Spain's Cantabria region are on strike, facing a political struggle not only against employers but also the PSOE-Sumar government and the trade union bureaucracy. Lee's presidency does not represent a victory for democracy. Rather, he will impose the demands of the ruling class for austerity no less ruthlessly than the previous administration. Boniface Mwangi and Agather Atuhaire had travelled to Tanzania in an act of solidarity with opposition leader Tundu Lissu, who is facing a trumped-up treason trial. Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" calls for a universal voucher scheme defunding public education, exacerbating inequality and stripping working-class students of access to well-funded public schools. Touted by both management and BLET officials as a breakthrough, the agreement in fact continues decades-long declines in working conditions, paves the way for automation-driven job cuts and further cements partnership between unions and management to suppress rank-and-file opposition. This threat must be answered through the broadening of the struggle, appealing to healthcare workers and others throughout the region to come to the strike's defense. The dangers of silica dust exposure have been known in Australia for more than a century, yet the unsafe conditions continue. The long-standing fraud operation demonstrates that the United States law enforcement agencies, far from protecting the population, operate largely as a law unto themselves and represent a clear threat to the working class. The agreement was worked out under pressure from the DMK-led Tamil Nadu state government, which has bitterly opposed the Samsung workers' challenge to poverty wages and brutal working conditions for fear that their militant example would scare away investors. VW emissions scandal: Some managers and engineers sentenced to prison, but not former CEO Winterkorn Ten years after the diesel emissions scandal came to light, four former Volkswagen managers were sentenced last week.
