Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. American imperialism is rushing headlong into war with Iran, assuming direct command of a predatory conflict it has long plotted alongside Israel, its proxy in the Middle East. Family gathered Sunday to hold a Father's Day memorial for the 63-year-old Stellantis worker who was tragically killed at the Dundee Engine Complex in Michigan on April 7. In the version of a budget bill presented by Senate Republicans on Monday, tax cuts benefiting the wealthiest are combined with a cutoff of Medicaid for more people than the number proposed by Republicans in the House. ICE arrested New York City comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander for "obstruction," as he was escorting an immigrant outside an immigration court in lower Manhattan. The Socialist Equality Party calls for the broadest industrial and political mobilisation of the working class to stop Keir Starmer's Labour government dragging Britain into war with Iran. The firing of Dr. Rupa Marya highlights the confluence between the university, the Democratic Party and ultra-wealthy donors who control them both. The initiative by the Marseille dockers underlines the determination of the working class to go on the offensive against the genocide in Gaza and against the imperialist governments complicit in this crime. The attempt to claim the mantle of "the Socialist Party" and to describe itself as "the socialists" is a fraud being perpetrated by the pseudo-left Socialist Alternative, with the backing of elements of the media and political establishment. A unified struggle would directly threaten the PSOE Sumar government's militarist agenda, heavily reliant on the metal sector. It would confront a deeply unpopular administration besieged by corruption scandals and mounting working-class resistance to years of austerity and wage erosion. The draft language does not contain any protections against privatization, which the Trump White House has declared as its aim. But even if it did, such terms would be rendered meaningless when Trump is actively trying to set up a military dictatorship. These and other expressions of mass global opposition occur as the crimes of the Israeli regime in Gaza, the West Bank and now Iran continue unabated. The turmoil created by the Trump administration's policies have undermined norms that were previously taken for granted. The field is ripe for mass collective action, as seen in the massive nationwide demonstrations on June 14. The struggle of Long Beach nurses must be understood as part of this broader awakening of the American working class. The cuts also impact federal funding arrangements, which are matched to the state allocation. That brings the total withdrawal of desperately needed school funding to $3 billion. Britain's universities have responded to students protesting the genocide in Gaza by establishing a new legal framework aimed at outlawing protest altogether. Students, staff and academics at every threatened university face the urgent challenge of taking control of their struggle out of the hands of the union bureaucracy.
