The series of financial storms in the US, of which the collapse of SVB and concerns over the stability of middle-sized banks is the latest, is causing nervousness. The political lie of the unchallenged universal legitimacy of the state of Israel has suffered a devastating exposure with the mass protest movement of Jewish Israelis against the far-right government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The deeply reactionary, savage and clearly unconstitutional action is consistent with the pattern established by the court, particularly under its current six-to-three far-right majority, in relation to the barbaric practice of state murder. The victory of Janet Protasiewicz consolidates a 4-3 Democratic majority on the highest court in a key midwestern state. The wholesale renaming of Ukrainian towns, streets, parks, and squares, has been lauded by the country's far-right who seek to replace historical truth with far-right nationalist propaganda. The IYSSE's meeting at Victoria University of Wellington called for an anti-war movement based on the international working class. Speakers discussed the causes of the war in Ukraine, the pro-imperialist politics of pseudo-left groups, and the university's promotion of far-right war propaganda. The April 4 runoff election defeating Democratic Party favorite Paul Vallas represented another electoral upset, after incumbent Mayor Lori Lightfoot failed to qualify in the February 28 primary. The privatisation of state-owned enterprises and the destruction of tens of thousands of public sector jobs, are part of the IMF-dictated austerity measures being imposed by the Wickremesinghe government. Amid growing anxiety among the financial elite, another important aspect of this letter must be stressed: The financial oligarchy's fear that control over this contract negotiation may spill out of the hands of the pro-corporate ILWU. This week, 30,000 classified workers in Los Angeles Unified School District are voting on a tentative agreement that fails to raise their pay and working conditions out of the poverty-level conditions that have prevailed for decades, following a three-day strike last month which shut down the nation's second-largest school district. It is now essential for workers to take the initiative and wage a serious fight to defend all remaining jobs at the plant. The plant is still standing, production is still running. It is now that a strike and a real struggles must be discussed and organized. The second online public meeting of the Postal Action Committee unanimously passed a resolution that begins with the words, "The second ballot was one big scam to push through cuts in real wages." AMLO has deployed the Mexican military to serve in effect as an auxiliary of US imperialism and its US border police. "It was good to learn about the struggles of workers in France and of postal workers in Germany and Australia. Workers are faced with the same problems and are in the same fight."
