Violence broke out amid increased army deployment, security measures and jockeying for public and international support over the planned integration of various militia groups into the Sudanese army. The government of billionaire William Ruto has delayed salary payments to government and parastatal workers, while imposing IMF austerity measures and waging reactionary wars. The sharp tensions over French President Emmanuel Macron's recent trip to China shed light on the real goals of the US and its allies' offensive against China and Russia. Rank-and-file workers at Rutgers must organize immediately to prepare a struggle against the sellout of the strike, break through the isolation imposed by the union leadership, and reach out to other workers across state and national lines. Behind the university's endorsement of an AFT-affiliated union of diagnostic technicians stands the collaboration of the official labor organizations with the corporate interests that are profiting from intolerable conditions for health care workers and patients. Sri Lankan unions have refused to call any industrial action to fight IMF austerity and President Wickremsinghe's repressive Anti-Terrorism Bill. In the span of less than a year, one former and one sitting prime minister have been the targets of violence, pointing to growing volatility in Japanese politics amid a deepening social crisis. Over a dozen Republicans touted their fealty to the gun lobby and police at the annual convention. Governor Desantis is aiming to be the standard bearer for the far-right in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential elections. This arrest—with video footage splashed all over the media—occurred amid escalating moves by the Biden administration, backed by the Australian Labor government, to militarily and economically confront China. Dutton's lurid claims were part of a broader orientation to extreme right-wing forces, amid an existential crisis of the Liberal Party. The focus of the coalition agreement between the Christian Democrats and Social Democrats is on providing the security forces with greater powers, as part of an onslaught against democratic rights. O'Brien's whopper, delivered at a rally in Los Angeles on Saturday, is the surest sign that the Teamsters bureaucracy is colluding with the White House to block strike action at UPS, just like it did with the railroads last year. On Saturday, rank-and-file candidate for UAW president Will Lehman wrote to Thomas Murray, Detroit-Milwaukee District Director of the Department of Labor's Office for Labor-Management Standards, objecting to the withholding of Curry's election protest. This is the second industrial fire in one week in the United States that forced the evacuation of local homes. The main impact of repealing the right-to-work law is to funnel millions of dollars in dues into the treasuries of the unions.
