US jobs massacre accelerates, as ruling class confronts growing upsurge of class struggle
 Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Layoffs of tens of thousands of workers have been announced in recent weeks, the latest in an unfolding jobs bloodbath in the US. The striking federal workers have shown great determination and militancy. But if their struggle is not to be sabotaged and betrayed by the pro-Trudeau government PSAC bureaucrats and their NDP allies, workers must take the struggle into their own hands. The unions have done everything they can to isolate and break a series of teacher strikes as they try to channel a growing movement of the Brazilian working class behind the Lula government. The new immigration rules announced by the Biden administration on Thursday are a deepening of the attacks on asylum seekers that were initiated by the Trump White House in 2020. In World War II, Canberra signed a deal with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill to incarcerate thousands of Jewish refugees from Nazi-controlled Germany, Austria and eastern Europe, in remote Australian prison camps. To even speak any longer of the Socialist Campaign Group as an entity, let alone a "Corbynite left", becomes ever more tenuous. Postal workers who were finally able to clap eyes on the 35-page agreement immediately challenged the CWU leadership's self-aggrandisement and deception. Some three weeks after a Republican super-majority in Tennessee expelled two Democratic state representatives, Montana Republicans disciplined Democratic state Rep. Zooey Zephyr for opposing reactionary bills banning gender-affirming health care. Similar efforts to flout the First Amendment were struck down repeatedly in federal courts over the past half-century, but Texas Republicans are emboldened by the far-right Christian fundamentalist majority on the Supreme Court. Prime Minister Anwar's visit to Beijing saw huge Chinese investment pledges and an agreement to negotiate on South China Sea territorial claims, likely to produce a hostile reaction in Washington. In order to defeat this betrayal, university workers need to take the struggle into their own hands, starting with the formation of a rank-and-file committee to lead a "vote no" campaign. The ALU claimed that it was building a new rank and file-led, militant union. But its orientation was not to building an international movement of the working class against capitalism but to building a new union apparatus. The combined inaction of the federal and state governments has been condemned as "tantamount to industrial manslaughter."
