In declaring that the United States will "own" Gaza, Trump has proclaimed a new era of colonial barbarism and brutality, in which whole peoples, in their millions, will be sacrificed upon the altar of imperialist domination. On Monday, hundreds of students and faculty at Cornell University held a meeting to discuss the Trump administration's attack on immigrants and the suppression of democratic rights on college campuses. A letter released by the Teamsters to Costco workers announcing "highlights" for a contract covering 18,000 workers has produced enormous outrage. The contract proposal was used to block a strike which would have begun on February 1. The solution to the use of scabs is the mobilization of the working class, not appeals to corporate politicians. Strikers should send flying pickets to other healthcare workers in the region. The Cook Islands' pact with China has been furiously denounced by New Zealand as breaching the neo-colonial constitutional arrangements with its Pacific neighbour. The strike by 900 laboratory staff, in protest against extremely low wages, follows strike action by more than 30,000 nurses in December. It is the conflict between the United States and China that is being fought out in the upcoming election, and the impeachment is the opening salvo. The LMU's cancellation of Albanese's lecture is the latest in a long line of censorious measures by the authorities in Munich. The potential for a movement uniting workers across North America was shown six years ago, when 70,000 maquiladora factory workers conducted a wave of explosive wildcat strikes.
