Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The Trump administration has ordered the detention of as many as 30,000 undocumented migrants in what is described as a "legal black hole" at the Guantánamo Bay, Cuba US naval base. US President Donald Trump said in an interview over the weekend that the Palestinian people he is seeking to ethnically cleanse from Gaza would not be allowed to return to their homes. "I'm talking about building a permanent place for them," Trump said. The planned $4 billion cut for funding for scientific inquiry to the nation's universities and academic medical institutions will have devastating consequences on research into treatments for such conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. "The idea of RFK being put in office is terrible. It's a detriment to the health of the people and will be absolutely unsafe." In October 1854, a large crowd in Worcester, Massachusetts took action against the presence of "slave catcher" Asa O. Butman and expelled him from the city. At the weekend, hundreds of thousands of people once again demonstrated against racism, the AfD and the shift to the right by the entire political establishment. Dissanayake's speech paying glowing tribute to sham independence and demanding that class interests of workers and the oppressed be subordinated to the good of the nation carries the stench of fascist demagogy. Events of the last week show that the recent police sweep at Ford Michigan Assembly was the launch of what can only be described as a police state crackdown against autoworkers. It is not a question of distributing the 35,000 job losses "fairly" between east and west Germany, but of preventing them. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told last Friday's emergency "national economic summit" that US President Donald Trump's threat to use "economic force" to annex Canada is a "real thing." Canada and other countries will be immediately hit, but China is the longer-term target. Under the fraudulent banner of combatting antisemitism, Labor MP Josh Burns last week demanded that Sydney's Macquarie University dismiss Randa Abdel-Fattah, a prominent pro-Palestinian academic. One worker said: "I don't think there are any real differences between the political parties at all ... [I'm] scared of our government following what Trump does." Diagnostic technicians in the University of Michigan healthcare system must vote no on the tentative agreement, which betrays workers' demands and gives management everything it wanted. Tahmoor workers' livelihoods are tied up with the fortunes of GFG Alliance, a company that is wracked with crisis on an international scale. Workers are being asked to accept a deal that will not allow them to even keep up with rising living costs, while Costco rakes in billions. Indianapolis workers who build jet engines for military aircraft face a contract deadline, while daycare workers across Quebec are protesting workloads and other issues. Italy's actions are indicative of a systemic issue where legal technicalities are exploited to shield individuals who serve imperialist agendas. The curators' narrative and lack of a class perspective provides no axis for understanding the decade, which was characterised, above all, by the abandonment and betrayal of radicalised sections of the working class and youth by all the old "labour movement" organisations. At the peak of the "storm of the century" 750,000 premises in the Republic of Ireland and 250,000 in Northern Ireland had no power.
