Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The IWA-RFC calls for mass action to stop the Trump administration's purge of federal workers by Elon Musk's DOGE, an unprecedented attack on the working class that, if unchecked, will have catastrophic consequences for all workers. Germany's 2025 Federal Election has exacerbated the political crisis in Germany and Europe. The result confronts workers and young people who want to fight against fascism, militarism and social cuts with fundamental political questions and tasks. The unprecedented firing of a half-dozen top generals and admirals is aimed at ensuring military obedience to unconstitutional and dictatorial orders. Trump's federal job cuts threaten Native education and tribal sovereignty, slashing jobs at universities and crippling the administration of essential federal Native-serving programs. Attendees at meeting called by the US Postal Workers Rank-and-File committee passed a resolution calling on workers to make preparations for "mass resistance, up to and including strike action." The contract, essentially the same as what was put forward in December, offers no changes to wages, paid time off or safe staffing ratios. Worked out with the collaboration of the would-be dictator Donald Trump, it is part of a massive assault on the democratic and social rights of workers across the country. These parties have reacted with glee to Donald Trump's election as US president, recognising that they now have an extremely powerful ally across the Atlantic with whom they can press a reactionary agenda already substantially adopted by European governments. The BBC's pulling of Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone is part and parcel of its pro-Israel bias in its reporting. Montreal-based author and activist Yves Engler—a prominent opponent of Canadian militarism and of Israel's genocide in Gaza—has been arrested and imprisoned in a malicious, politically motivated prosecution. This is a test case for the defence of all those, including academics, journalists, students and workers, being slandered and vilified as antisemitic for opposing the ongoing Zionist atrocities throughout Palestine. A mass shooting at UPMC Memorial Center has left the gunman and a police officer killed and multiple hospital staff injured. Similar pledges, to "save Medicare," have been made in every election for decades, only to be broken by Labor and Coalition government alike once the polls closed. The woman told a senate inquiry, her PFAS results were at the "red level," and that she had been "dogged by numerous, ongoing unexplained health issues for many years." President Washington addressed his audience with barely disguised contempt throughout the in-person public meeting as he was questioned again and again about his perceived indifference to their well-being and democratic rights. This column profiles important historical events which took place during this week, 25 years ago, 50 years ago, 75 years ago and 100 years ago.
