Coinciding with the far-right "Take our Borders Back" convoy, Republican governors descended on Eagle Pass, Texas Sunday to back Gov. Abbott's anti-immigrant campaign and his usurpation of federal authority over the border. State repression was stepped up as over 1,000 police, including armed officers, were again mobilised, with left-wing organisations targeted. Social inequality, deepened by the high inflation and cost of living in recent years, is provoking a wave of working class struggles. Biden is relying on the UAW and other union bureaucracies to chain the working class to the war chariot of US imperialism, as Washington seeks to exert global domination through military force. Los Angeles Councilwoman Nithya Raman is an open supporter of Zionism and the genocidal policies of the Biden administration. The 2024 federal budget is a declaration of war on working people. It includes the highest military expenditure since the end of the Second World War and massive cuts in the areas of healthcare, education, and social welfare. Around 25,000 security staff employed in passenger, personnel and cargo screening took part in the industrial action, demanding better wages and overtime pay. The IYSSE at NYU denounces the suspensions of Husain and Skiba and calls on workers, students and youth at NYU, throughout New York City and beyond to fight for their reinstatement. Two Austrian literary organizations have cancelled Bastašić's upcoming residency and reading because she protested her German publisher's silence on the genocide Israel is committing in Gaza. Newton teachers came under growing attack from the courts, the state government and the media to end their strike. Massachusetts' Democratic governor asked the courts to appoint an arbitrator to force teachers back to the classroom. The trial of Jennifer Crumbley on four counts of involuntary manslaughter moved to jury deliberations following seven days of testimony and closing arguments by Oakland County prosecutors and the defense attorney. The fact that genocide has been adopted as policy by all the major capitalist powers is a warning. Gaza is the test case, the imperialist powers are making clear that there are no "red lines" they will not cross in their struggle to sustain their hegemonic rule. Transit workers in over 80 cities across the country participated in the strike. WSWS reporters spoke to strikers in Berlin. The cutting of the day sort shift was announced simultaneously with the company's plan to eliminate over 12,000 white collar positions on the corporate side. Last week's national walkout is a part of a rising wave of strikes and protests over Colombo's International Monetary Fund-dictated attacks on jobs, wages, working conditions and democratic rights. Classrooms are at breaking point, with the worst ever teacher shortage fuelled by excessive workloads, real wage cuts, and mass COVID-19 infection.
