One year after the disaster of February 2023, nothing concrete has been done to ensure the safety of those living in disaster-prone areas. The obstacles are not natural but social. In its latest assault on higher education and democratic rights, Florida's government removed introductory sociology from the core social science curriculum of the state's universities and colleges. Her crime? Speaking out in opposition to the ongoing mass murder of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. For the third time in four months, Federal Police have raided addresses connected to illegal intelligence gathering, including a beach house used by former president Bolsonaro. Bukele easily won re-election based upon crime reduction, but social and economic conditions are pushing Salvadoran workers into struggle against his government. The British government has responded to mass demonstrations against Israel's genocide in Gaza with a frontal assault on the right to protest and free speech. It is seeking to criminalise left-wing and socialist opposition. Selina Robinson declared Israel was a "crappy piece of land with nothing on it" before it was carved out by the imperialist powers as a Jewish homeland in the aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust. "Mr. Joe Biden, I blame you for what happened to me. If you would have called for a ceasefire three months ago, this would have never happened." Australian Jewish academics condemn Zionist lie that opposition to Israeli war crimes is antisemitic Despite the lies and intimidation from the Zionist lobby, the media and governments, there is growing criticism of the propaganda used to delegitimise Israel's genocidal assault on Gaza. To support the humane and democratic spirit of the faculty resolution requires that it not be used to promote illusions that the governments, universities, parties and official institutions such as the UN that uphold the world capitalist system can be forced by pressure from below to halt the genocide and end the decades-long oppression of the Palestinian masses. There is a nervous closing of the parliamentary ranks in the face of intensifying discontent among workers and youth over the Israeli genocide in Gaza and the worsening cost-of-living crisis. The recent spate of fires at GM's flagship Factory Zero plant exposes the lack of safety planning and preparation on the part of management and its UAW "partners." The Malaysian government is working to foist the current debt crisis onto the shoulders of the working class and the most economically vulnerable in society. Manila is lining up with US war plans against China hoping to gain access to resources in the South China Sea while also seeking to direct domestic social tensions outwards. UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron's purpose is to ensure that the US's military base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean can continue to operate unimpeded. It also appears that London has dropped plans to hand the Chagos Islands back to Mauritius, citing "concerns" over its relations with China.
