Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's comments denouncing protests are worthy of a police state. They signal a further assault on democratic rights in the UK in defence of Israel's war of annihilation against the Palestinians. On Friday, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement asserting that he had ordered the Israeli military to submit a plan for the forced evacuation of the southern town of Rafah, where one million refugees from other areas of Gaza have been driven. Protests and strikes have erupted by autoworkers at the historic Stellantis Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy, in response to the threat of the plant's closure. While Special Counsel Robert Hur ultimately decided against bringing charges against Joe Biden for his handling of classified documents, his multiple comments on Biden's deteriorating cognition have further imperiled his 2024 candidacy. The smear campaign is aimed at suppressing opposition to the US-Israel genocide in Gaza. The words "genocide," "mass murder" and "ethnic cleansing" do not appear in the statement. The "ceasefire" which the statement calls for would be entirely on Israel's terms. Zelensky's firing of Zaluzhny risks a severe backlash from the country's far-right political groups which have been armed by the imperialist powers for over a decade. The Argentine ruling class is drenching its hands with the blood of Gazans as a means of renewing its historic counter-revolutionary relationship with the Israeli bourgeoisie. Svart's decision to step down from the top post in the DSA, one she has held for over 12 years, is one of many indications of a major political crisis in the organization, which functions as a faction of the Democratic Party. Scholz intends to strengthen his support for President Joe Biden and ensure that the costly and dangerous war against Russia continues at all costs. The head of the Emirates Airline has said Boeing is in the "last chance saloon" for dealing with the major problems caused by the domination of finance over its manufacturing process. Dissanayake's five-day trip signifies a further rightward shift by the JVP, as it bolsters its relations with reactionary regimes throughout the region and internationally. The deployment is particularly provocative toward Beijing as US special forces are now based on Kinmen, a group of fortified islands just 10 kilometres from the Chinese port city of Xiamen. The health unions' "campaign" against paid parking is a fraud, designed to allow workers to let off steam, while preventing any real challenge to the latest attack on take-home pay. The film defies the banality of Hollywood narratives and depictions, returning to the cinema the humanity and richness that belong in the arts and that audiences deserve. The union-backed New Democratic Party of British Columbia succeeded in shutting down a strike by Vancouver transit supervisor workers and imposing a concessions-laden contract this week by appointing a "special mediator." In 2024, tertiary education staff and students face huge political issues, above all, the escalating Israeli genocide in Gaza and the rising danger of wider disastrous US-instigated wars against Iran, Russia and China. South Korea: Samsung workers demand wage rise and better conditions; Sri Lankan public sector workers protest against government attacks; Qantas pilots in Western Australia strike for equal pay and conditions; New Zealand medical lab workers renew strike action. Students joining walkouts and rallies expressed their anger over the integration of universities with Britain's and Israel's war machine. What has been served up is precisely the type of empty "solidarity" criticised by the Palestinian trade unions when they appealed for concrete action to stop arms production and shipments to Israel by the imperialist powers.
