Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The National Defense Authorization Act is not really a "defense" bill. It is a blueprint for global war, targeting China for military aggression, followed by Russia, Iran and North Korea, while expanding US military support for Israel's war of annihilation against the Palestinians. The fascistic members of Netanyahu's government hope that they can conceal the horrendous war crimes they are committing from the world through deliberate targeting of journalists. The IDF reign of terror directed against the Palestinian population—including its leading cultural and intellectual figures—continues unabated. We are publishing here the tribute to Helen Halyard given by Joseph Kishore, the national secretary of the Socialist Equality Party (US), to a memorial meeting for Comrade Helen held on December 3. The WSWS spoke to workers at the Stellantis Warren Truck Assembly Plant Friday about the year-end layoff announcements that have followed on the heels of the national UAW-Big Three auto contracts. Rural letter carriers in Minnesota and across the country are becoming increasingly opposed to widespread delays and long hours caused by an agreement between Amazon and USPS to prioritize Amazon packages. Swissport workers struck after the company refused to respond to their complaints about poor safety standards at the airport. Orwellian language referring to "residents" who are "housed" on the barge conceals the fact that the asylum seekers were rounded up and kept in a hell hole. Drunk on its own propaganda agitating for the end of any public health response to the pandemic, the right-wing media responded to its rude awakening with wild denunciations. The report found a six percent decline in the well-being of young women when compared to Generation X. The Supreme Court on Wednesday announced it would hear a case that has challenged the distribution and availability of mifepristone, the most commonly used abortion pill. The de facto trilateral military alliance between the three countries is aimed at provoking China into a war over Taiwan. The Queensland turmoil has laid bare the reality that the ruling class and its political servants in the Labor governments could not survive without the union bureaucrats who pull the strings behind the scenes, no less committed to the capitalist and militarist agenda. The deal will do nothing to address the underlying crisis in the ambulance service and the public health system more broadly, as a result of decades of bipartisan government funding cuts. The Grand Rapids Public Schools board of education is meeting on December 18 to vote on a plan, dubbed "Reimagine GRPS with Us" that calls for the shutdown of ten public schools in the coming decade. In contrast to the "pivot" on interest rates by the Fed, the European Central Bank and the Bank of England have insisted they are sticking to the previous course. India: Gurugram city sanitation workers' strike continues; Sri Lankan public sector workers protest budget cuts; DP World terminal workers resume national industrial action; V/Line regional public rail commuter workers in Victoria strike; New Zealand early childhood workers protest low pay. Public service union leaders settled for less than half of the original demands. Instead of the original pay rise demand of at least €500 over a 12-month period, the contract stipulates no pay rise for the entire first year of the deal.
