Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Israeli officials, knowing full well how and where Hamas would strike, made a deliberate decision to stand down in order to facilitate the attack. The destruction wrought in the north of the Gaza strip is now planned for the south, focussing on the city of Khan Yunis, where Israel claims Hamas is headquartered. Only a month ago, UAW President Shawn Fain shared a platform with Biden opposite thousands of antiwar demonstrators. Jacobin's positions on the pandemic are fundamentally indistinguishable from the talking points of right-wing COVID fanatics who have gushed over Sweden's response. Provisional data from the CDC indicate a rise in life expectancy of 1.1 years due to a decline in COVID deaths for 2022. However, this does not make up for the 2.4 years lost during the first two years of the pandemic. A previously scheduled rally and sit-in at the administrative offices of Wayne State University by Students for Justice in Palestine was blocked by campus police, who stopped students from entering the building and denied their basic right to peaceful protest. The House of Representatives voted by more than two-thirds to expel Santos after he served less than one year in office. Newsom, a proxy for the Biden-Harris campaign and future presidential candidate, attacked DeSantis from the right on COVID-19, the war on immigrants and the genocide in Gaza. Exploring every aspect of Bernstein's life, including his marriage, is certainly legitimate, but what Maestro has done is unacceptably one-sided—and therefore misleading. British actors, artists, writers and critics have issued an open letter demanding that arts institutions cease their censorship of pro-Palestinian views. Several hundred University of Michigan students marched and rallied in the rain on Friday to denounce the U-M administration's arbitrary cancellation on Thursday of a student referendum vote on a resolution urging the university to acknowledge the genocidal character of Israel's war in Gaza and divest from companies profiting from the slaughter. The raid sets a dangerous precedent for the establishment of a police state in Chile. The 14.4 percent pay increase of the three-year agreement does not come close to restoring real wages after the 19 percent inflation over the past three years, much less provide for rising prices over the next three. As the US has stepped up its military build-up against China, Tokyo has engaged in its own remilitarisation and joined Washington's diplomatic efforts to consolidate an anti-China bloc throughout the region. Backing the Israeli regime to the hilt, Trotter and others like him are placing themselves at the service of US imperialism to provide justifications for a wider regional war. Sydney Theatre Company management has refused to challenge these anti-democratic attacks but bent over backwards to pacify the Zionists and the corporate media. This death points to the repressive conditions in the war-ravaged north and east of Sri Lanka, which has been under military occupation for decades. CFPE meeting called on educators to discuss the war at their workplaces, and organise resolutions, and other solidarity actions through the formation of independent rank-and-file committees. Walton has been rewarded with her new six-figure position in the union bureaucracy after proving her anti-worker bonafides by selling out a strike by 55,000 education workers and scuttling a general strike movement which threatened to bring down the hated Ford government. Sri Lankan public sector workers demand higher living allowances; India: Maharashtra contract health workers' strike enters sixth week; Australia: Queensland water utility workers strike for higher wage; New Zealand nurses begin new campaign for better pay and conditions.
