Three weeks ago, on September 19, the WSWS wrote, "It is necessary to put aside all self-deluding hopes that what is unfolding is anything less than a drive to establish a presidential dictatorship, based on the military, police, paramilitary forces and fascist gangs." Everything that has developed since has vindicated this assessment.
While the corporate press covers up the danger and pretends nothing is happening, the WSWS has provided continuous, daily analysis, identifying the driving forces of dictatorship in the capitalist oligarchy, exposing the role of the Democratic Party, and advancing a socialist strategy for the working class.
The WSWS has consistently insisted that the defense of democratic rights depends upon the independent mobilization of the working class, the only social force capable of stopping dictatorship. That is why we are intervening aggressively in the upcoming October 18 No Kings demonstrations, where millions will march against authoritarianism. These protests express enormous popular opposition to dictatorship, but they must be armed with a perspective: a socialist and internationalist program that connects the fight for democratic rights with the struggle against inequality and capitalism itself.
The WSWS is preparing extensive coverage and distribution material for these demonstrations—leaflets, analysis, and on-the-ground reports—to bring this perspective to workers and youth. We urge all our readers who plan to attend the No Kings protests to contact us, volunteer to help distribute statements, and report on what is taking place in your city.
Today, we are asking for your financial support. In a period of censorship, propaganda, and silence from every wing of the political establishment, maintaining and expanding the WSWS is essential.
But we depend entirely on donations from our readers. Your contribution goes directly toward printing and travel costs for our reporters, maintaining the technical infrastructure of the WSWS, and expanding our reach to new audiences of workers and young people who are looking for an alternative.
Now is the time to act:
