Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Over seven days and 29 lectures, the SEP Summer School reviewed in detail the Security and the Fourth International investigation, situating it within the historical trajectory of the Trotskyist movement. The following report was delivered by David North, national chairman of the Socialist Equality Party (US) and chairman of the World Socialist Web Site, to the opening session of the SEP summer school last week. The White House is pressing ahead with its campaign to erect a police state dictatorship. After a video conference attended by Trump, Vice President Vance, several European heads of government, and the leaders of the EU and NATO, German Chancellor Merz spoke of a "constructive and good conversation." Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told an Israeli TV reporter on Tuesday of the Palestinians in Gaza, "We are not pushing them out but allowing them to leave" prior to the military offensive aimed at seizing control of the entire Strip, including the densely populated area of Gaza City. Whether it is forced to retreat on this particular measure or not, it remains a grave threat as long as it remains in office. The case of Grammy Award winner Macklemore highlights the ideological depravity of the German establishment: the rapper denounces the crimes of imperialism, yet a concerted media campaign has branded him an "anti-Semite." Sarah Shaw and her son Isaac, who are legal residents in the US, were abducted by ICE in an unmarked van at the Canadian border and are currently being held in a crowded prison in Texas. An analysis of Donald Trump's tax and spending act issued Monday by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) confirms that the measure, signed into law last month, transfers trillions of dollars in income from the poor to the wealthy. The appointment of E. J. Antoni, to what is supposedly a non-partisan position in the administration, is another significant step in Trump's efforts to establish a personalised regime. Inadequate inspections by the city and poor regulatory compliance by landlords have again caused a deadly outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in poor, working class areas. A reactionary petition by Kim Davis seeks to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, threatening to strip hundreds of thousands of couples of legal protections and accelerating the bipartisan assault on democratic rights. By requiring letter carriers to work in a flood-damaged building that smells like sewage, the NALC bureaucracy has shown its open hostility to its members. In the space of barely six weeks this summer, the maritime and port industries saw a grim series of fatal incidents worldwide. The Sri Lankan military and police are notorious for their brutal attacks on residents, particularly in the North and East, which have been under military occupation for four decades.
