Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance engaged in a publicly-televised shouting match with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his appearance at the White House Friday, exposing the crisis triggered by the failure of the US-NATO war against Russia in Ukraine and the growing confrontation between the United States and the European imperialist powers. The protests were supported by demonstrations at more than 100 Greek embassies and consulates internationally, across all six inhabited continents. In a major escalation of the attack on the rights of pro-Palestinian and anti-genocide protesters, the Department of Justice announced the task force created by President Trump to "combat antisemitism" would be investigating 10 universities for violating the law. The attempt to take over the District of Columbia is of a piece with the attacks on federal workers and the effort to create a personalist dictatorship. The abrupt cancelation by the FDA of the vaccine advisory committee meeting to determine next flu season's vaccine has potentially catastrophic public health implications. A group of lawmakers in Maryland has proposed a bill that would criminalize so-called "masked intimidation." The film's success is undoubtedly linked to a growing recognition that resolving the country's acute political crisis is impossible without a serious reckoning with its history. The frantic preparations for Carnival, driven by lucrative private investments, underly the dangerous working conditions at the factory. Ocalan repudiated the "extreme nationalist deviation" of seeking a separate Kurdish state, insisting that the Kurdish question could be solved by "democratizing" the Turkish state. Amid the self-congratulatory commentary in the British media on Starmer's successes in schmoozing Trump, there are guarded acknowledgements that not very much was, in fact, achieved. There are striking images and certain convincing performances, but on the whole the filmmakers seem very much out of their depth. The work is starved of genuine historical and social insight. That Ford, who has presided over vicious attacks on public services and worker rights, was able to posture as a man of the people leading "Team Canada" against Trump threats was entirely due to the political bankruptcy of the union-sponsored NDP, and the suppression of working-class opposition by the union bureaucracy. The SEP has formally challenged and launched a public campaign against the Australian Electoral Commission's rejection of our application for official party registration. Amid the furore, no-one has suggested that the Chinese "live fire" exercises were a military threat, were not held in international waters or that China had no right to carry them out. Nurses and other health workers are angered by the government's drastic cuts to overtime and public holiday pay rates and the imposition of longer promotion periods. Despite attempts to censor the WSWS, workers wanted to discuss the broader questions and did so with our reporters at length. Over the past month, France, Australia, Japan, Canada, New Zealand—following Washington's lead—have each staged war games or concluded alliances with Manila targeting China. "We're trying to treat unstable and traumatised patients in a public mental health care system that has become unstable itself and can re-traumatise." Japan: Nurses strike for higher pay; India: ASHA workers in Kerala still on strike after two weeks; Bangladeshi coal miners demand permanency; Australia: Victorian mental health care workers escalate state-wide action The platform where the men, ages 26 and 33, were working apparently touched live electrical lines.
