Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Revealed on Tuesday night was the political underworld in power—the physiognomy of the American oligarchy that rules over society. The trade war targeting America's three largest trading partners is part of the Trump administration's drive to reshore production and secure its dominance over the Americas in preparation for world war against adversaries and nominal allies alike. Tuesday's imposition of 25 percent tariffs is threatening to plunge Mexico into a historic crisis. Workers in the US and Mexico expressed concern about trade war measures and job cuts. The aspiring dictator threatened to deport and/or arrest students for the "crime" of exercising their First Amendment rights. The meeting will be held in person in Sydney and live-streamed. It is part of the SEP's campaign to challenge the rejection of its application for official party registration. "The system is designed to keep the Socialist Equality Party from registering and designed to keep a socialist voice out of Parliament completely." In coalition talks, the Christian Democrats (CDU/CSU) and Social Democrats (SPD) are preparing a huge increase in defence spending and corresponding social cuts. The Green and far-right Alternative for Germany also largely support this course. The bitter experiences of the past century have proved that a progressive solution to the Kurdish question, which is intertwined with a deepening imperialist war in the Middle East and involves four countries in the region, cannot be found within the capitalist nation-state system. The working class must reject half-measures and lies and demand a full accounting of the scale and depth of the homeless crisis in the city of Detroit and across the country. Despite its rhetoric, the CPM-K is a pro-capitalist, nationalist organisation articulating the interests of sections of the bourgeoisie and middle class. It is positioning itself as an alternative for elites frustrated with Kenya's alignment with the US, seeing China as a more lucrative alternative. Fender gives voice to a generation of working class youth which has grown up after the collapse of the Soviet Union, amid a prolonged suppression of the class struggle and a rotten "left" culture of barely disguised liberalism, actively hostile to class politics and to Marxism, concerned with the micro-policing of language and the selfish advancement of rival "identities", leaving millions of people politically at sea. Soaring housing costs are pushing more retirees into financial distress, with two-thirds of retired renters now living in poverty. The Supreme Court ruled the state government does not have to release internal documents related to its decision to demolish 44 public housing towers in Melbourne. This campaign is a test case for the defence of all the academics, journalists, students and workers being slandered and vilified as antisemitic for opposing Israel's crimes and the underlying nationalist ideology of Zionism, which many Jews oppose.
