There is a pervasive sense that the political system is dysfunctional, incapable of responding to the needs of the people and heading toward violent domestic conflict. Such scandals, heavily promoted by the corporate media outlets, are invariably mechanisms for executing political shifts as governments unravel in the face of popular hostility.
