Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Trump owes his political triumph to the bankruptcy of the Democratic Party, whose fixation with the identity politics of the affluent middle class, arrogant indifference to the devastating impact of inflation on workers' living standards and unrelenting support for war in Ukraine and genocide in Gaza prepared the ground for the election debacle. The disastrous consequences of Trump's victory can be averted only by "a new birth" of genuinely socialist politics, based on the working class and animated by an international strategy that unites global humanity. The Democratic Party lost at least three Senate seats, and possibly as many as seven, while largely failing in its efforts to gain seats in the House. Gallant is a vicious war hawk, whose disagreements with Netanyahu are over how best to assert Zionism's interests militarily. The harsh condemnation of Netanyahu by Erdogan who heads the second largest army of NATO, cannot hide the complicity of the Turkish bourgeoisie in the Gaza genocide. The police crackdown, being coordinated at the highest levels of government and the state, marks a further step in the criminalisation of opposition to war. A significant article in the Financial Times characterised the US as a gilded economy with a "shiny but thin veneer." Ukraine has been shattered as its people were used as NATO cannon fodder to attack Russia, and opposition to the war is mounting among Ukrainian workers and soldiers. After a year of negotiations and more than one hundred bargaining sessions between CUPW and management, Canada Post workers are not any clearer as to if or when the union will authorize job action. "How can the CWU allow Royal Mail to dismiss this lad unchallenged, whilst frauding the public daily on a seismic scale?" Since the Transport Workers Action Committee published a statement in support of its candidates for the staff council elections at Berlin's regional transport provider (BVG), a lively discussion has been taking place among workers at the company. The Thompsontown closure is another in a string of plant closures and layoffs throughout Pennsylvania and more broadly. Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is considering closing 13 schools. WSU is becoming a prototype for the Labor government's Universities Accord, channelling students and research into war-related industries. The appointment of trustees to replace elected mayors is a blatant attack on basic democratic rights. The Socialist Equality Group condemns this anti-democratic police state repression and calls for the reinstatement of elected mayors.
