Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The administrations of the major universities in the United States are playing an absolutely foul role in facilitating the reign of terror against free speech and democratic rights being implemented by the Trump administration. Dr. Peter Marks made clear that a central impetus behind his resignation was Kennedy's criminal response to the deepening measles outbreak in the US which has now infected over 500 people, the vast majority unvaccinated children. "The alternatives as posed by Rosa Luxemburg, 'Socialism or Barbarism,' confronts us all today. The alarm has been sounded. Now we must respond to it." The Socialist Equality Party is standing candidates in the Australian federal election to build an independent movement of the working class against Labor, the Liberal-National Coalition, the Greens and capitalism itself. France and Britain pledged to send troops to Ukraine, risking total war with Russia, amid rising US-European tensions as Washington and the EU both try to seize Ukrainian mineral resources. A broad coalition of Spanish cultural workers has issued a powerful manifesto opposing the European Union's rearmament programme and denouncing NATO's support for Israel's genocide in Gaza. Postal workers, outraged at the betrayals of the trade unions, discussed what needed to be done now to protect jobs which included unifying all sections of the working class in a common struggle against oligarchy and dictatorship. In an interview Sunday morning Fain reiterated his support for the tariff and trade war policies of fascist President Donald Trump. The raid on the group's publicly advertised meeting at Westminster Quaker Meeting House, a little over half a mile from Downing Street, is a major escalation in the Starmer Labour government's assault on democratic rights. The charges against "Last Generation" are a massive attack on the freedoms of association, assembly and expression. The massive disaster has struck a country already reeling from widespread poverty, food insecurity and civil war. We fully support Khalil and Taal and our comrades in the IYSSE and Socialist Equality Party in the US, who are in the forefront of defending the democratic rights of students, youth and immigrants, and all workers facing the Trump administration's savage assault on jobs. The sudden elimination of the $236 million program marks a complete capitulation by the university to the fascist Trump administration. By choosing Boeing to build the "next-generation" F-47, the Trump administration is reaffirming the American state's support for a critical defense contractor. The City Council's plan to cut funding to LAHSA does not address the root causes of homelessness; instead, it ensures that corporate profiteers will control the flow of resources. This Freedom of Information decision further exposes the anti-democratic character of Australia's electoral laws and the AEC's totally obscure use of them against the Socialist Equality Party. Nine months of intense scrutiny, by the media, state and federal police task forces and inquiries launched by governments and the administrator himself, have unearthed virtually nothing. Mass jobs protest in Britain; Chiang Kai-shek dies; US longshore leader witch-hunted; Eisenstein films Battleship Potemkin. This is a gripping film, without nostalgic working class romanticism or "proletarian hero" pathos, and also without the moralistically tinged tone of petty-bourgeois intellectuals, which characterises many other socially critical films. [In Detail…The Toxic Waste Scandal, a documentary in eight parts on the birth defects scandal in UK town Corby. Available on BBC Sounds in the UK.
