Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the incapacity of capitalism to deal with the problems of mass society, and that this social system is in an advanced state of regression. President Trump, Elon Musk and DOGE are pressing ahead with attacks on federal workers, including the elimination of nearly 2,000 jobs at the Department of Education. This report was delivered to a meeting of the International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) at Wayne State University in Detroit on March 6, 2025. The CDC's decision to reinvestigate links between vaccines and autism after decades of scientific inquiry that showed no such connection is a bellwether moment in the anti-public health trajectory of Trump's fascistic policies. Students, teachers and community members at the rally warned that the disappearance of Khalil was an attack on everyone's democratic rights. The approval of an IMF package and the appointment of the two judges by executive decree, both clear authoritarian power grabs, took place amid accusations of corruption against Milei in connection with the "crypto crisis". The arrest and extradition of Duterte expresses the intensity of the ongoing political warfare among the Philippine elite over the country's geopolitical orientation. The declaration of the IG Metall executive board in support of the massive war credits makes it clear that the struggle against rearmament and war cannot be waged with, but only against the trade union apparatuses and their control in workplaces. It is part of the efforts of US imperialism, together with Israel, to dominate the Middle East. Corbyn's sermonising has one aim only: to allow him to pose as an advocate for peace while refusing to mobilise workers and young people against the Labour government. The repression of students protesting Israel's genocidal assault on Gaza is being mounted as a co-ordinated operation between university management, the police, including counter-terrorism units, and the highest levels of the state. As soon as it was confirmed that a budget would be brought down in March, national-security figures demanded that it include massive hikes to military spending, which will be paid for through austerity. A vicious debate and media storm over whether 340 houses were "built" or "acquired" only underscore the total inadequacy of Labor's "social and affordable" housing policy. As authorities in the state of Georgia prepare to formally open the military-style police training center, they continue to muzzle any form of opposition, be it peaceful protests, street demonstrations, referendums or federal lawsuits. According to a SAG-AFTRA statement in October, the only sticking point in the negotiations remained artificial intelligence (AI) protection, with a spokesperson for the industry asserting the parties had reached agreement on "24 out of 25 proposals."
