Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. As the Trump administration doubles down on its plans to ethnically cleanse and annex the Gaza Strip, the US has launched a new military offensive targeting Yemen and ultimately Iran as part of a systematic escalation of the US-Israeli war to reshape the Middle East under US domination. Trump claims he is speaking for millions of parents supposedly clamoring for education to be "run by the states." The reality is he represents a filthy rich oligarchy that wants to privatize schools and transfer billions from public coffers to Wall Street. Trump's action has cut off a financial lifeline to museums and libraries, already woefully underfunded. Seventy-five staff will also lose their jobs. The detention of İmamoglu, Erdogan's main political opponent, marks a new stage in Turkey's descent into dictatorship under the conditions of escalating social inequality and imperialist war. The political and constitutional crisis now engulfing Israel is not merely the product of Netanyahu's desire to remain in power and somehow avoid imprisonment for corruption via war, as the opposition leaders claim. It is the inevitable outcome of the Zionist project. In spite of intimidation by law enforcement, several hundred students protested Thursday to show support for Taal and his lawsuit against Trump. The meeting, titled "Free Mahmoud Khalil! Mobilize the Working Class Against Trump's Dictatorship," was attended by workers from various industries and students and staff from schools across the city. These actions echo the crimes committed by fascist regimes in the 1930s, and the CIA's "Operation Condor's" cross-border repression by Latin American dictatorships in the 1970s. Vizguerra's arrest, detention and possible deportation underscore that Trump's racist and dehumanizing attacks on immigrants have nothing to do with "public safety" but are aimed at intimidating and suppressing the democratic rights of everyone. Held in person in the working-class Sydney suburb of Bankstown and streamed on Zoom, the meeting was attended by a broad cross-section of workers, students and young people. While the men's death warrants were signed before Donald Trump took office January 20, the state executioners and the US judiciary were certainly emboldened to see these executions through to completion by the new administration's rampage against democratic rights. Food production is subordinated to the profit interests of a tiny layer of wealthy landlords and ruling elites while the working class and rural poor are left to suffer. Behind her "moderate left" image, Ghazal is a fervent Quebec nationalist who poses no threat to the established capitalist order. The Mount Sinai Health System has long sought to close the hospital, which would deprive neighborhood residents of easy access to emergency care. On Tuesday, nearly 2,200 nurses protested the inhumane conditions that have become the norm in hospitals across the United States. The wave of melioidosis infections has been exacerbated by poverty and the increasing severity of storms and floods resulting from climate change. In Washington D.C., the seat of the federal government where almost 20 percent of the workforce is situated, the wave of mass firings undertaken by Trump and Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency threatens to bring the local economy into turmoil. The manufacture and use of bone tools dates to a million years earlier than previously documented. Edison prioritized profits over maintenance and fire prevention, endangering lives and communities. Healthcare workers in Athens, Greece walk out over pay and staff shortages as health system operates with half the staff numbers since 2009; protests by retirees and strikes by oil workers and radiology technicians across Iran over cost-of-living crisis; junior doctors and tertiary college staff in Oyo State, Nigeria strike over non-implementation of minimum wage and staff shortages About the WSWS The World Socialist Web Site is published by the International Committee of the Fourth International, the world Trotskyist movement, and its affiliated sections in the Socialist Equality Parties around the world.
