Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Speaking at a symposium in Stockholm, Sweden, on central bank independence Powell made it clear that the Fed and other central banks, acting in the interests of finance capital, must be allowed a free hand in imposing the crisis of capitalism on to the backs of the working class. Articles in the media across the political spectrum hailed the fact that Britain is set to be the first nation to supply main battle tanks to Ukraine, spurring other NATO powers to do likewise. The court-appointed Monitor has not responded to Lehman's official protest and is proceeding to conduct the second round between Shawn Fain and Ray Curry. The tentative agreement reached Thursday for 7,000 striking nurses in New York City does nothing to address the core staffing issues at stake in the strike. The appointment, announced Wednesday by Attorney General Merrick Garland, means both President Biden and his predecessor, Donald Trump, are under investigation by special counsels. The SGP is now visible throughout the German capital as the only party counteracting the hated war policy and social devastation that is being promoted at the federal and state levels. On Saturday, the Socialist Equality Party (SGP) held its first election rally in Berlin-Spandau. Top candidate Christoph Vandreier and honorary chairman Ulrich Rippert spoke against tank deliveries to Ukraine and for an international movement against war. The Hollywood establishment, firmly in the pocket of the Biden administration, did what it could Tuesday to delude and confuse the annual award ceremony's viewing audience. World Socialist Web Site reporters spoke with striking ambulance workers Wednesday. Ambulance workers in Wales will strike next Thursday, and in England and Wales on the 23rd. The trade unions continue to suppress strike action by National Health Service workers with the potential to draw behind it the entire working class. Takar Smith and Oscar Leon Sanchez were both shot and killed by police while Keenan Anderson, a teacher and cousin of Black Lives Matter Founder, Patrice Cullors, suffered a cardiac arrest after he was repeatedly choked and tased while in police custody. One reason why workers should vote "no"—in addition to the sub-inflation 4.5 percent nominal wage rise—is the wide scope for Pampas to maintain and extend its exploitation of labour hire workers under the proposed agreement. Australian companies, with the approval of the government, are dispatching weapons to despotic regimes involved in war crimes and major human rights violations. The forced evacuation of the village of Lützerath to enable open cast mining is being organised by the self-proclaimed "environment party." The state government, a coalition of the Christian Democrats and Greens, has mobilised thousands of police officers from throughout Germany to brutally crack down on the climate protesters. Doctors in Madrid, Spain resumed an indefinite strike Thursday over staffing levels and pay and were joined by workers in emergency health. Seven thousand nurses are on strike in New York City, fighting for safe staffing ratios and higher wages.
