The US media celebrates Trump’s Venezuela war crime. Help us tell the truth.

Hello, In the early hours of Saturday morning, the US military carried out an unprovoked act of war against Venezuela—bombing Caracas, kidnapping the country's president, and killing scores of people, including civilians. The response of the US corporate media was not shock, opposition, or even skepticism. It was celebration. Across television networks and major newspapers, the invasion was hailed as "bold," "audacious," "daring," and "stunning." Not one of these outlets questioned the legality of the attack, acknowledged its colonial character, or even used the words war crime. Instead, they functioned openly as a propaganda arm of the Pentagon and the intelligence agencies. No opposition to war and dictatorship can be expected from the corporate press. Support the WSWS Within hours of the invasion, the WSWS exposed the assault on Venezuela for what it is: an illegal act of imperialist aggression, in flagrant violation of international law, carried out to seize control of strategic resources and reassert US domination over Latin America. We documented how the media knowingly suppressed information, coordinated with the military, and glorified a war crime. The US media is owned and controlled by the same financial oligarchy that backs war abroad and social counterrevolution at home. These organizations do not report on imperialist violence from the outside; they are integrated into the state's ideological apparatus. Their role is to transform mass murder into a spectacle of "audacity" and "technical proficiency," to dull opposition, and to prepare the public for ever more reckless acts of aggression. Yet the ruling class confronts a profound problem: the vast majority of working people oppose another imperialist war. Poll after poll shows deep popular hostility to military intervention in Venezuela and widespread distrust of official claims about "democracy" and "security." The media's hysterical praise of the invasion is aimed precisely at suppressing this opposition. The WSWS speaks for that opposition and works to give it conscious political expression. We do so by grounding every analysis in history and law, by exposing the class interests driving imperialist policy, and by fighting to unify workers and youth internationally against war, dictatorship, and capitalism itself. The assault on Venezuela is a warning. The ruling class is discarding legal norms and preparing permanent war abroad alongside escalating attacks on democratic and social rights at home.
