Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The brutal killing of Renee Nicole Good and the Trump administration's invasion of Venezuela mark a qualitative escalation in the drive toward dictatorship at home and imperialist conquest abroad. Cell phone video from ICE agent Jonathan Ross confirms that he violated all training procedures, placing himself in front of Good's vehicle to justify murdering her. Israel launched strikes on Thursday and Friday that killed at least 14 Palestinians, including children, as the White House organizes its "Gaza Board of Peace," made up of imperialist war criminals including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. This brings to an end a year which saw a jobs bloodbath against the working class carried out by corporate America, with all indications that the assault will accelerate in the new year. No way forward is provided by the Stop the War Coalition, the Corbynite Your Party or the Greens, whose response underscores the fact that only a socialist programme provides the basis for a fight against imperialism and the danger of world war. The most hawkish elements demand the UK government immediately start coughing up staggering sums to reach NATO's new target of 5 percent of GDP spent on the military. Despite the obvious and long foreseen danger, the federal and Victorian Labor governments stand exposed as utterly unprepared and unwilling to provide the resources necessary to prevent such a disaster. Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson has remained silent on the Trump administration's military attack on Venezuela and kidnapping of President Maduro, while her inaugural actions reveal a fundamentally reformist orientation toward American capitalism. Abdel-Fattah's removal from the literary festival is part of a coordinated drive by Labor governments—state and federal—and the rest of the political establishment to suppress all opposition to all imperialist war crimes. Labor leaders have said as little as possible, while refusing to condemn Trump's flagrantly illegal war of aggression in the slightest. The traditional winter retreat of the CSU parliamentary group, held at Seeon Abbey, marks a further authoritarian and militaristic shift to the right by Germany's ruling class. The CAQ's "reform" will inevitably aggravate an unprecedented housing crisis—one that Premier François Legault and his CAQ government have systematically sought to blame on immigrants. Industrial Bank of Korea workers to strike over pay cap; India: Tamil Nadu secondary grade teachers demand equal pay; Bangladesh: Hotel and restaurant workers plan national strike action; New Zealand firefighters continue nationwide strike.
