Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The threat of dictatorship and world war is even greater today than in the period of the Watergate crisis and Vietnam. US, German and EU officials publicly endorsed Ukraine's ongoing military ground offensive inside Russia's Kursk region Thursday, as Ukrainian forces appeared to continue to gain ground. Justified on the basis that the mayor of Nagasaki refused to invite the ambassador of the genocidal Israeli regime to the ceremony, the coordinated decision by the imperialist powers to stay away underscores that they are risking a world war waged with nuclear weapons. There can be no successful struggle against the far-right danger that does not base itself on the fight to mobilise the entire working class against the ruling capitalist class and the war and austerity agenda of its Labour government. Members of the Postal Workers Rank-and-File Committee (PWRFC) spoke with WSWS earlier this week about the growth of the far-right and the need for an organised rank-and-file movement to defend the working class. There is widespread opposition by Ford Chicago workers to the possibility they will be forced to handle scab-made parts from Dakkota. The rupturing of a large water pipe at the Ford Dearborn Truck Plant Monday by a forklift is only the latest in a series of safety incidents underlining the miserable conditions that have developed at the Rouge complex in the wake of the 2023 sellout contract negotiated by UAW President Shawn Fain. Like New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman, Bush lost support within the working class despite her anti-war posturing due to her unstinting support for Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. The invocation of the law used to ban a rail strike in 2022 as "pro-worker" in their endorsement exposes the bureaucracy's role as an agent of capitalist politics. The NYPD has arrested videographer Samuel Seligson on trumped charges of hate crimes for filming the graffitiing of the homes of pro-genocide members of the Board of Directors of the Brooklyn Museum. The "no" vote by almost 5,000 Health Services Union members shows that health workers are ready to fight. But the union bureaucracy is hostile to any struggle for real improvements to wages and conditions. The massive factory is one of the most dangerous workplaces in the country, while Tesla is laying off 14,000 people and CEO Elon Musk's net worth has soared to ovet $200 billion. Data for the second quarter showed an annualised growth rate of 4.7 percent—the lowest in five months. "To go from writing songs that say there's no hope to lyrics that dare to attack the problems we're experiencing in Rouyn-Noranda and point the finger at those responsible, gives meaning to what we're doing and what we're experiencing." A government-commissioned report found that "unmet need is the norm" and disadvantaged people in some parts of the country were provided with no legal aid at all. National walkout by nurses in Portugal and health workers in Germany, including doctors at some hospitals walk out over pay and conditions; strikes by nurses and other workers in Iran as protests continue against low pensions, poverty and social conditions; doctors' pay strike in Ogun State Nigeria as thousands protest food insecurity and lack of access to electricity About the WSWS The World Socialist Web Site is published by the International Committee of the Fourth International, the world Trotskyist movement, and its affiliated sections in the Socialist Equality Parties around the world.
