Lenin was a theoretical and political genius who founded the Bolshevik Party and led a revolution that not only transformed Russia and created the Soviet Union, but gave an immense impulse to all the revolutionary political struggles of the 20th century. The demonstrations show the depth of opposition to the return of fascism and war, but organizers are seeking to subordinate the movement to the government and parliamentary parties who are responsible for the official turn to the right. Opposition to the fascistic law is growing, including amongst sections of undocumented workers who have been abandoned by the trade union bureaucracy. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is intensifying attacks on Gaza and Lebanon despite protests internationally, including within Israel itself. After being released from military prison last week, 18-year-old Tal Mitnick, the first public conscientious objector to the genocide in Gaza, vowed to continue his stand against mandatory military service. These remarks were delivered by Peter Schwarz, secretary of the International Committee of the Fourth International, at a meeting organized by the Young Guard of Bolshevik-Leninists, a Trotskyist youth organization in the former Soviet Union. During a pro-Palestinian student and faculty protest at Columbia University, two Zionists who had served in the IDF sprayed students with an irritant resembling an Israeli chemical weapon called "Skunk." There was no national demonstration in London this weekend, with smaller protests being held around the capital. WSWS reporters spoke to some of those attending the protests. Attacks on the renowned actor, who has not been convicted of any crime, take place as the French government seeks to divert attention from its support for Israel's genocide in Gaza. It glorifies an historic crime in pursuit of realizing the fascistic project of transforming India into a Hindu rashtra or state. There is growing evidence that China could be entering a deflation-debt loop. This is the tribute given by Keith Jones to Halil Çelik, founder and leader of the Sosyalist Eşitlik Grubu, who died suddenly at the age of 57 on December 31, 2018. The tribute was read at a memorial meeting on the fifth anniversary of Halil's death. "There has to be an international campaign [against the targeting of health workers], which is not just happening in Australia but internationally," a Sydney doctor told the meeting. Labor is reluctant to directly shut down industrial action because it wants to avoid inflaming class tensions amid a growing cost-of-living crisis and mounting opposition to its agenda of austerity and war. The Marape government has imposed draconian emergency measures in the wake of widespread rioting caused by escalating living costs and social discontent. The outgoing administration of President Joko Widodo has imposed the burden of economic shocks on the working class and rural masses, with poverty, unemployment, and wealth inequality figures climbing since 2020. This week 29,000 CSU professors, lecturers, counselors and coaches are beginning a powerful strike to demand significant wage increases and benefits in the face of skyrocketing costs of living and casualization of jobs. Teachers directed their anger at Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, formerly a county commissioner and lobbyist for the Chicago Teachers Union. Students and faculty at Columbia rallied and spoke out against the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the attacks on democratic rights on campuses. The Newton strike is the latest in an upsurge of teacher strikes in Massachusetts since 2019, after 12 years without a single strike. Since then, strikes have broken out in Dedham, Sharon, Andover, Brookline, Haverhill, Malden and Woburn. The limited strikes are an integral part of the plan for the closure of the factory that the works council headed by Markus Thal and IG Metall is implementing on behalf of the company.
