 Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The invitation, one of the highest honors that can be extended to a foreign head of state, identifies the entire US political establishment and both imperialist political parties with genocide. Biden and Macron cynically tried to invoke the US-British-Canadian landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944 to legitimize their escalation against Russia that threatens to plunge Europe into a new world war. A judge has granted UC's request for a temporary restraining order to halt the strike by tens of thousands of academic workers against the police crackdown on protest over the US-backed genocide in Gaza. This statement was delivered by Barbara Slaughter, a leading member of the Socialist Equality Party in the UK and a fighter for socialism for nearly 80 years. Slaughter calls for the release of Bogdan Syrotiuk, the Ukrainan socialist who was arrested by the Zelensky government last month and faces framed-up treason cahrges that threaten him with decades of years in prison. The latest horrific death took place almost exactly two years after Caterpillar worker Steven Dierkes was instantly incinerated falling into a vat of molten metal at the same facility. In Hollywood and the film and television world, as elsewhere, the gulf over Gaza takes on, in the final analysis, a class character. The Greens are serving as something of a placeholder, with the real target the mass opposition to the genocide among workers and young people. Amid an influx of patients and a surge in staff illness, authorities in some parts of the country have been forced to cancel elective surgeries and temporarily reinstitute masking in health facilities. There is no doubt that Varoufakis and MERA25 would betray the Palestinian masses, just as Syriza betrayed the Greek workers, if they had the opportunity to do so as a ruling party. The "Stop right-wing extremism" alliance is trying to divert anger with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AFD) into support for the discredited parties that comprise the German government. Union leaders are isolating a strike by 13,000 non-academic workers that began on May 2, and are trying to create the conditions to shut it down altogether. The new contract does nothing to address the demands of nurses for safe staffing levels. After five quarters of no growth and only a small rise in the March quarter, the interest rate cut has been described as a move to provide some limited stimulus to the economy. India: Kerala train drivers protest long working hours; Pakistan: Khanewal district doctors strike; Wilmar Sugar threatens to lockout its Queensland mill workforce; New Zealand carpet makers strike over pay. The tightening of provincial and federal policies on immigration is a consequence of a concerted campaign spearheaded by the far right but embraced by all political parties, from the Conservatives to the ostensibly "left" New Democratic Party and the Quebec autonomist and separatist parties.
