Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The conquest of Gaza City will place the entire Strip under military occupation, creating the conditions for what Netanyahu has called the "concluding moves" in Gaza: the ghettoization of the Palestinians in concentration camps and their expulsion from their ancestral homeland. The Trump administration has instructed all US embassies and consulates to halt visa approvals for all Palestinians regardless of the reason for travel, such as medical treatment, university studies, visits to friends and family or business. The massive demonstration was a further impressive example of the deep gulf that separates the working class and young people from the state authorities, establishment politicians and the media. This is the second part of the lecture "Internationalist Socialism vs. Nationalist Reformism" delivered by Clara Weiss, Chris Marsden and Peter Symonds to the 2025 Summer School of the Socialist Equality Party (US) on the history of the Security and the Fourth International investigation. While the attendance of many of the 20 leaders at the summit was unremarkable, the presence of the Indian prime minister—his first visit to China in seven years—triggered alarm bells in Washington. The far-right mobilisation was promoted by the media and sections of the political establishment to divert social discontent into reactionary channels and to counteract growing left-wing sentiment. The Australian Medical Association, health unions and medical colleges have turned a blind eye to the ongoing Zionist witch-hunting and victimisation of health workers. Their goal is clear: to get a foot in the door, secure works council positions, and sell Musk a "more stable social climate." Tens of thousands of jobs have been lost in the industry due to the bankrupt strategy of the trade unions. Decades of bipartisan deregulation and union collaboration have created a social catastrophe. The defense of workers' lives requires rank-and-file committees, not token reforms designed to protect the corporations. Columbia University's administration, having capitulated in the face of Trump's assault on academic freedom, cannot tolerate any semblance of workers organization on campus. There is outrage because UTS management has suspended and stopped new enrolments for nearly a fifth of its courses and threatened to sack 400 staff—about a tenth of the workforce. On September 1, dozens of laws furthering the far-right agenda of Trump and his allies in Texas went into effect. Only days prior, Trump's "One Big Beautiful Map" was also approved. The case of sacked Fed governor Lisa Cook, which is likely to go to the Supreme Court, has at its heart the issue of whether the central bank can be subjected to direct political control. The jobs were slashed at FedEx Supply Chain in Memphis, marking the latest blow to logistics workers facing tariffs, consolidation and automation. Some 34,000 British Columbia government workers could walk out this week over pay and other contract issues, while 84 glass workers in Toledo are opposing rising insurance costs and mandatory overtime.
